Hello,

kb955430

Does anyone knows how to solve this problem?

Thanks,

My Computer

My computer has 2 months and came with Vista 64 Bit Sp1.

Since then I have been doing all automatic updates.

How can I see if I have Vista SP2?

And is there Vista SP2 already?

Thanks,
Miguel

If you right-click 'My Computer' you can select properties which will show you what OS + Service pack you are currently running.

Hope this helps :)

Hi, I guess the update hangs at about 90% and you have to kill the task.

If so, is it reading

C:\Windows\servicing\Version\6.0.6001.18000 indefinitely?
Do you have an add-remove entry for Vista SP1? (My PC came preinstalled with SP1, & I'm beginning to guess this problem is related to that, & this folder.
So:
"If you have Vista SP1, which you installed (rather than the manufacturer) I'd be really grateful if you could send me a copy of the content of that folder..
C:\Windows\servicing\Version\6.0.6001.18000" please...!!

Thanks for the reply, but - guess what- MS already suggested that..

and .. guess what..

the first thing it tries to install is..

yes..

KB955430 which... wait for it.. fails as before..

Hmm, is that because an earlier attempt to install it failed?

How can one remove a pending failed update?

Shutdown shows 'Install updates and shut down' as a result of KB955430..

Thanks..!

Would still love a copy of the folder..

Don't install KB955430 only install SP2 standalone version I gave you link to that! When you will have installed SP2,KB955430 will never appear in Windows Update

Hi, thanks again, alas, I didn't make myself clear-sorry:

In attempting to install SP2, as per the download you gave, it tries to install KB955430.

I have no control over that- it just is.. unless the pack has some command line params, say..

Because SP2 standalone include this hotfix. If you still have trouble with installing SP2 try install it in safe mode..

Hi Flavius, thanks again..

Alas, exactly the same in Safe Mode.

Still fails in the same way, trying to install KB955430.

If you can find a solution, you'll do better than anyone who's seen this problem I've read about.

I'd still hope to try adding a copy of the folder the hotfix is trying to read from a PC on which SP1 was installed by the user, not the manufacturer- or had an add-remove entry for it, say.

All steps make in normal mode:
Run cmd.exe with administrative previlliges and type

sfc /scannow

when it will done create report

Run cmd.exe with administrative previlliges and type

findstr /c:"[SR]" %windir%\logs\cbs\cbs.log >%userprofile%\Desktop\sfcdetails.txt

on your desktop appear file sfcdetails.txt

next run CheckSur Description of the System Update Readiness Tool for Windows Vista, for Windows Server 2008, for Windows Server 2008 R2 Release Candidate, and for Windows 7 Release Candidate
even if this tool won't resolve problem automatically it create logs:

C:\Windows\Logs\CBS\CheckSUR.log

System also create logs -there is log C:\Windows\WindowsUpdate.log but this log is mostly too big
So download FireGenUL Altair Technologies Ltd.
place this file in C:\Windows\System32 and restart computer
next run cmd.exe and type

firegenul

and then will create short *.htm report from WindowsUpdate.log placed in C:\Windows\System32 -report name FireGenUlReport.htm

All tree files:FiregenUlReport.htm,sfcdetails.txt and CheckSUR.log pack them and attache to post -if they will are to big to attache upload them on Speedy Share - upload your files here
if you will have any problem with creating FireGenUlReport.htm attache WindowsUpdate.log instead

Hi Flavius, Thanks.
Ok, all done.. attached as a zip file.

Meanwhile I'm trying to find someone with Vista here who may be able to give me a copy of the folder... but Vista got a heavy thumbs down, so most are on XP.

BTW, I have done sfc /scannow and CheckSUR before...

Hope you can see sthg useful.

Ah, I forgot, sorry, I'd used 'Vize' which patches system resources- icons, graphics.. updates some old-style icons etc in Vista.

Kind of like a transformation pack, but only some graphic resources in dlls etc.

That would likely explain the files SFC replaced.

Hmm, I wonder if that would confuse the updates.. so far, any other updates applied since using VIZE have been unaffected.

- will try again..

Hi, thanks, alas eliminating the effects of VIZE and running SFC etc does not allow KB955430 to run.

I'm therefore pursuing these avenues:
1. Get a copy of the folder it reads (most people here in 2 local IT firms reverted to XP, so could be tricky).
2. Repair install. But guess what, I only have recovery disks + an SP1 ISO I found for startup repair only. So I -ahum- will have to get an SP1 Vista disk.
3. Await MS's next response. and maybe twist their arm for a sparkling new Vista DVD, as one or two others have with this problem.

What puzzles me is even if I repeat SFC /Scannow after a restart, it still repairs a number of files.

Upload the windowsupdate.log file. It will be located at c:\windows.

Let's have a look at that.

Hi, Tried the two MS 'fixes' - same outcome with KB955430 manual install, normal mode.

(Assume same in Safe Mode...??!)

Er, could you clarify what settings for OLT.exe, please?

I've attached zipped Windows Update.log.

Thanks!

(Oh, the MS escalation support engineer is enquiring (finally) about that folder it accesses of the technical geniuses at MS. Only took 10+ email exchanges to get there, & I told them about it from day 1).
