| Vista Home Premium 64bit | SP2 Install just sitting there... I got the notice today that SP2 for my Vista Home Premium was ready to install. I said okay and let it do its thing while I surfed the net. (I have the highest speed DSL, this shouldn't be a problem, I don't think, I've done it before.) But the Windows Update is just sitting there saying, "Installing Updates 1 of 1..." now for over 2 and 1/2 hours. Should I just stop the Update and try again? |

| Windows 7 x64 (7229) | Re: SP2 Install just sitting there... Did this ever work? I am downloading it from WU right now. I hope there are no problems. I was surprised to see it on WU. I heard it would be June sometime before we saw it here. I hope I don't have the same experience you have had. If you found the problem please let me know. Thanks. |

| Vista Home Premium 64bit | Re: SP2 Install just sitting there... Nate, believe it or not... THREE HOURS and 20 Minutes later, it finally came up with the screen that said it was finished downloading and was ready to install. My guess is that MS's servers were swamped with requests to install it - probably people like me who HOPE (though not too optimistically) that this SP will solve some of the issues we are having with Vista! Anyway, so it finally worked. It took about 20 min. or so total, to install. It restarts the computer, then it installs stages 1 and 2, then restarts again and installs stage 3, then restarts for you to use your computer. |

| Windows 7 x64 (7229) | Re: SP2 Install just sitting there... Okay thanks, I am also finished. My broadband speed is 7Mbps so it didn't take too long. It installed in about 15-20 minutes like you said. I am pleased how easy it was through WU. I hope it improves......anything. I am a Windows 7 user but like to use Vista here and there. Thanks for the reply. |

| Vista Home Premium 64bit | Re: SP2 Install just sitting there... My DSL download speed is 4820kbps yet it took me 3 hours! Like I say, I think that at the time I did it, the servers must have been clogged. Good luck with it! So far, it LOOKS like it may have fixed a major issue I have had, but it's too early to tell... |

| Vista Home Premium 64bit | Re: SP2 Install just sitting there... 1. Microsoft should warn us that its download server is often severely backed up when new updates come out. Choose a time to download them when you don't need your computer for 4-5 hours (though it may take only 3-4 minutes). As you'll note in the thread entitled Sample Vista SP2 Installation Experience, I begin the download and just go to bed when it doesn't happen right away. 2. Some Vista updates take a lot of time because they have to change a lot of files and registry entries. Even after you have downloaded an udpate, plan to click the Install Button when you have time to go fly a kite for a while. The thread above breaks down the time it took my 2.4Ghz laptop with 4 MB of RAM to complete the SP2 install. Whatever you do, don't stop an update in progress. That can cause you to need a full Vista re-install. |

| Vista Home Premium 64bit | Re: SP2 Install just sitting there... I imagine it's okay to stop the DOWNLOADING process, just not the part after you click to install it, no? Next time, in fact, I think I'll go to the MS web site and download a big upload like this separately, then install it when I go to bed, instead of using the Update utility. |
