Vista Update Readiness Tool

I thought this might help people who are having problems updating Vista.
Code:
http://support.microsoft.com/kb/947821
Here`s a discription of what it does :
Quote:
This article describes the System Update Readiness Tool for Windows Vista-based computers and for Windows Server 2008-based computers. Microsoft released the System Update Readiness Tool to resolve certain conditions that could cause installing updates and other software not to work. You do not have to manually run this tool. This tool is offered automatically through Windows Update to computers that have a condition that the tool could resolve.
Update information

After you download the System Update Readiness Tool, it runs a onetime scan for inconsistencies that might prevent future servicing operations. This scan typically takes less than 15 minutes to run. However, the tool might take significantly longer on some computers. The Windows Update progress bar is not updated during the scan, and progress seems to stop at 60% complete for some time. This behavior is expected. The scan is still running and you should not cancel the update.
Hope this helps someone

Re: Vista Update Readiness Tool

That link is broken. Obviously the double http, but more than that. WHen i type it into my browser correctly it comes up page not found. I have tried Page Not Found. and Page Not Found. and both open up to a page, Get Free Tech Support, with the message Unable to find a page at this address.

EDIT: lol when I typed the addy's the site automatically link them: the addy's I tried are (without the http) support.microsoft.com/kb/947821#applies to, and support.microsoft.com/kb/947821.

Re: Vista Update Readiness Tool

Well so it does. How weird, yesterday it didn't. Well in any event, thank you.

Edit: LOL

  1. , click Control Panel, and then click Security.
  2. Under Windows Update, click Check for updates.

Important This update is offered on Windows Update only to computers that have a condition that the tool could resolve.
If I COULD check for updates, I wouldn't have a problem, you see, CHECKING for the updates, as well as downloading them, is where I'm stuck. Code 80072efd, and yes I've done the things they suggest for that as well with no luck. Thanks anyways, hope it does help others though. I'll keep keep searching.......

LOL Littlebity, you keep trying to help me and I keep being to stupid. I didn't scroll all the way down that page the first time.

Now I see what it is, yes, I had tried it, but just for grins I tried it again. It says it is still not my problem. I have a 80072efd error, if you want more info check this thread out, what with the SP2 coming out, it got buried quickly: http://www.vistax64.com/windows-updates/229098-windows-update-error-80072efd.html

EDIT: Oh, and thank you for trying to get me to understand how to follow a link. I'm usually NOT this stupid lol.

EDIT2: LOL it took me forever to find the rep button, it's not been my week........
