sp2 and IE8

I am afraid to install the sp2 on my computer because I did not install IE8. Does anyone know if IE8 has to be installed for SP2 installation? Also, has anyone installed sp2 and had a good experience with no problems after install? Lately, I think microsoft has been rushing out updates and stuff for our computers and things have not been working right. There has been another recent update to windows that now I can't copy from works and paste into an email!!! So, there are all these things now that are not working right and I am getting a bit frustrated....You can't contact them because they have no answers. I have so many friends that pay so much money for support from HP or microsoft and they never seem to have any resolutions for these current problems people are having...
I hope someone here can help..

Hi Addie,

You do not need to have IE8 installed prior to installing SP2. However, you do need SP1 as that is a prerequisite for SP2.

I have had no problems with SP2 on either of my Vista installations, however they were both clean installs from disks with SP1 included and I used the standalone versions of SP2 which I had previously downloaded and placed on a disk.

If you haven't got SP1, then I recommend that you download the standalone version of that and place it on a disk.

Dwarf,
I did install sp1 a long time ago when it was first avail. I wanted to make sure, but I can't seem to locate it on my list of installations? It seems that the list dropped of the earlier installations? Do you know how I can view these? Ok, then I will install sp2. I really don't want IE8 yet...
Thank

OK...
I installed SP2 @ 05:14 est today; it is now 07:00.
it took from download to install then auto reboot 17mins - wireless laptop vista hm prem 32bit verizon FIOS.

I'm so happy that the update for .NET 3.5sp1 is GONE:D I was never able to install anyway.

I find no difference in wireless network ( or don't know where to look )
no difference in shutdown.
IE8 no difference.
I have tried most of my apps and they seem fine.

the only issues I find are:

1.) reboot/bootup is longer by 23seconds tested 10x (I defrag regtry and C:drive )
2.) I have a new program running that I don't know of--see attached
3.) still can't update office live add-in

that's it so far
