windows updates-Terrible!

Ok, it's probably "just me!", but I'm gonna post this anyway, in the hopes its not just me. Recently, I have updated my Vista Ultimate x64 OS and my comp kinda lagged out. What I mean is, I would open up an application. I would get the circular thingy (XP it was an hour glass). I would have to constantly WAIT for a few min for it to do whatever it needed to do. Did I mention I have 12 GB of Over Clocked Memory(oc'd from mfg).
Ok, well I couldn't take it anymore, so I saved all my DATA and reformatted....well that was 2 days ago..comp was running fine.....did the windows updates.....only had 2 left...so I installed those 2 and had to restart for download to take effect..ok, No Problem I've done this at least 30 x's already...so, what's the harm?Well, guess what harm it did? Yup! It wipped out my whole Hard Drive!!!!all my documents, any pic's I had on my Lc:" drive gone!!!!
My software is all in tact, but doc's all gone, almost as if an os repair was done...weird...my desktop changed back to vista's green wavy theam. All my gadgets went back to original gadgets when you first run it. However, in the system tray, all my programs remain running...I tried to reinstall my desktop wallpaper, but it won't let me know...I'm going to try tob restart comp when I get home from work today, but I'd figure I'd post and see what the heck happened?
I also might just reformat tonite, since it only taked about 1/2 hr to format and reinstall OS on my 750 GB Hard Drive...the time needed to reinstall all my software takes about a day now...but then you all knew that!

Any ideas?
Thanks in advance!!!!!

I've had similar problems in the past and have found that most times, if you just leave Vista alone, it sorts itself out.

Don't you just love Windows.....
