Security Update for Microsoft Virtual PC 2007 (KB969856)

This update keeps installing over and over

It has now installed successfully 7 times and is shown as successful in the Update History list - 7 times!

HELP!

I suppose I could uninstall VirtualPC since I have not been using it lately.

I should mention that it does not show up in the Control Panel | Progarams and Features | Installed Updates list, though.

One other thing: VirtualPC is not supposed to work on Vista, but it does. In fact my son does development using it daily.

I suppose this update is (KB969856). If it shows again in the Windows Update you can hide it, just right click this update and select Hide Update.
The Virtual PC 2007 is supported on the Vista OS except for Vista Home Basic and Vista Home Premium, however it works on the Vista Premium.

Cheers...

Re: Security Update for Microsoft Virtual PC 2007 (KB969856)

Perhaps that might work, but it is already downloaded and there installing again and again every time I shut windows down. I can't uninstall it, though, since it does not show up in the installed list, just the install history.

I suppose I could hide it, but that seems to me to be just covering up the problem, not identifying and rectifying it. This could be an indication of something else screwed up.

Allend, if you want uninstall any update go to Control Panel > Programs/Uninstall a program, click View installed updates on the left in Tasks, then select the update you want to uninstall, right click it and click Uninstall.

Hope it helps. Cheers...

Thanks, but please carefully read my explanation, detailed above, several times.

This pckage DOES NOT appear in the installed list -- only in the installed history.

Re: Security Update for Microsoft Virtual PC 2007 (KB969856)

I'm sorry for misunderstanding, my fault.
Because this update is the Service Pack 1 for Microsoft Virtual PC 2007, it was integrated into the Virtual PC. In other words it's the software upgrade to a newer version of Virtual PC. You won't find the old Virtual PC 2007 in the Program and Features list, but Virtual PC 2007 SP1. So, if you want to uninstall the SP1 you can do this as the whole program.

Once again, sorry for misreading your post.

Cheers...

Ok. Thanks.

I don't want to uninstall it unless that is the only solution.

What I want is to not have it automatically reinstall for the 8th time when I next reboot.

Re: Security Update for Microsoft Virtual PC 2007 (KB969856)

I have the same problem. Windows update keeps trying to install the security update for virtual pc 2007 over and over.

I have tried downloading the update and installing it without using windows update, but this has not worked.

I have not tried uninstalling Virtual PC 2007 yet. Maybe uninstalling and reinstalling will help.

Re: Security Update for Microsoft Virtual PC 2007 (KB969856)

My PC gets restarted several times a day. After watching Windows install that update seven times or more each time I shut down and restarted, and after I asked here, the problem went away by itself. Seems the update is now installed.

I have no idea what happened. I suspect M$ notices these issues and quietly corrects them in the background. I have occasionally noticed odd behaviours after patch installations that went away after a few days and a few reboots.

Who really knows what is happening inside this O/S? Not me.
