Cannot Uninstall Windows Vista x64 Service Pack 2

Hi-

I have been working on a users computer for a about a week now and have read about 100 posts on google. I am having trouble uninstalling Service Pack 2 from her Vista X64 machine. I want uninstall the service pack because it has created havoc for her computer. It constantly keeps rebooting at random times and shows a blue screen beginning to dump physical memory. Then when Windows boots back up it says it has recovered from a serious error. On average the computer reboots at least 4 or 5 times a day. I have tried to remove it from the control panel and it says "uninstall was not completed successfully." Her system restore date does not go back far enough, so I can not restore her PC before the SP2 was installed. Have tried all the steps from the following post: How to uninstall Windows Vista service packs as a troubleshooting step. The command line option just sits there for about 5 minutes and then returns to the C: prompt, it never asks me to reboot the system. Another technician installed the SP and he did not save the restore files. I have tried to download the SP 2 and place the file in C:\temp and uninstall through the command line but this also does not work. I am stuck and need help uninstalling service pack 2. The user also just purchased an HP printer office jet 6500 and have read online that HP printers have not had much success with Vista x64 systems. Any help would be greatly appreciated. If possible, I do not want to reload the PC and I only have remote access to the computer.

Just now it is difficult to say your system is corrupted or you have uncompatible drivers or programs with SP2.Because you have BSOD system should return dump files which can help us diagnose what really happend -these required files (*.dmp) are located in C:\Windows\Minidump -pack it and upload it on Speedy Share - upload your files here

Disable also non-system services this means make Clean Boot Procedure How to perform a clean boot procedure to determine whether background programs are interfering with a game or a program that you currently use
and let know us about results

My Computer

This is an unusual problem to help with [ from our point of view] as you say that you are using remote access to fix issues on a clients computer.
Some questions that come to mind are -
Did the client [that you inherited] have the beta version of SP2 installed on her computer prior to downloading SP2?
Were her anti virus & malware progs "exited" prior to SP2 being downloaded?
Has she more than one anti virus prog installed? [eg.a forgotten preinstalled Norton version lurking somewhere]
Why has she not returned to the original tech that installed SP2?

Re HP printers & Vista 64-bit.
FWIW we have 2 laptops running Vista Ultimate 64-bit & use 2 HP Laser Jet printers without any probs at all. She shouldn't believe all she reads.

This is hardware trouble -attached files why

Try this

-uninstall all devices connected to USB (of course it is not relate only mouse and keyboard) -
-update drivers for chipset and BIOS if you don't have the newest versions

Check you have in event viewer in Applications section any errors "ID 10" - if yes you have to also make this:Event ID 10 is logged in the Application log after you install Windows Vista Service Pack 1 or Windows Server 2008

If still nothing help you can also try this:

Start>>Search>>devmgmt.msc

Expand Universal Serial Bus controllers and uninstall every device in this section (do not restart computer untill you unisntall all devices from this section)
+ restart - system will reinstall USB controllers after restart

JMH-

I recently moved 2 states away from the user, that is why she went back to her "old technician". This is also why I only have remote access to the users computer. I did not install the SP 2, but the service pack was the final release. The only antivirus she has installed is Symantec. I doubt if he disabled the antivirus when downloading/installing SP2. She did not return to the original tech because she likes my work better and she found out that I could work on her computer remotley.

Flavius-

Thank you for reviewing my minidump files. I will troubleshoot her PC tonight and uninstall her USB devices. She was getting the Event 10 id log, but I ran the script that Microsoft created and that fixed the issue.

Thanks for responding bojones.
Flavious will take good care of you. ;)

I did as you instructed and updated all the drivers and uninstalled all the USB items and the computer is still shutting down every day. Once a day. Here is the minidump files from the last 3 days, is there anything else I can do?

Isnt it just as simple as going to windows update and uninstalling it from installed updates?

if you cant find Service Pack for Microsoft Windows (KB948465), then that's another problem all together.

No MDA400, it is not that easy. It should be but it is not. Service pack 2 is listed under her installed updates but I cannot remove it because it errors out everytime. However, after Flavius reviewed her dump files, he believes it is a hardware issue with her USB devices.

Ah... I see what you meant by the error then.

I thought it was a different way you tried to uninstall it from the control panel.

In her case, since she cant system restore, due to insufficient history, you should think about backing up all of her pictures, video, documents, Etc. and all of her other critical files on an external HDD or some CD's that are big enough.

If you arent able to do that before the system Bsod's again, then all you can really do is clean install vista again or contact Microsoft Technical Support.

yes it seems that you are having problem with your usb host controller.

Open up your cpu cabinet, remove your front panel usb connection if u have and all usb connections except the ports with your motherboard and try to remove sp2.
