Installing update for 12 hours

When I shut down my machine (Windows Vista x64 Ultimate + fully patched Norton Internet Security) yesterday evening, it started automatically installing 9 updates. (sounds like the 5 critical + 4 important this week)

Now, 12 hours later, it still says "Installing update 1 of 9".

The busy cursor is still spinning, the periods are still moving & my disk light is flashing.

Re: Installing update for 12 hours

Thanks for the pointer.

I was able to run system restore in safe mode. Since then, I manually installed the 7 updates (now of 11) which seemed really important & will deal with the scans (defender & malicious software removal) separately....a strategy which has gotten me around install fails (but not hangs) in the past.

Thanks again for your help!
