Re: windows not updating automatically

As far as I know there is no solution for this error apart System Restore - undo
or Repair Install For Vista

before these you can also try run cmd.exe with administrative previlliges (right click on this file as admin)
and type

sfc /scannow

I suspect after few minutes it rerurn errors "can't finish to mak this operation" or likely -this error relate to WinSxS corrupted

Re: windows not updating automatically

Usually corrupted .net frame work component will cause this error, as you said some applications and games also need .net frame work.

From thi9s , i would suggest you to manually remove .net frame work component

Installation of .NET Framework fails and requires manual removal

http://blogs.msdn.com/astebner/pages/8904493.aspx

and download the latest .net frame work.

Install it and post back the results

He can't remove/reinstall NET Framework 2 because these are striclty build in system ...well for 2 there is unofficial fix http://www.vistax64.com/1078843-post2.html- (Sometime I have found this although I'm not sure it will work) article which you posted is for older systems.Version 3 you can disable in Programs and features>>Turn Windows Features on or off.By using NET Framamework Cleanup Tool from Aron Stebner blog you can only remove 1 and 3.5 in Vista

from Aron Stebner blog:

Quote:
Not all of the above products will appear in the UI for the .NET Framework cleanup tool on every operating system. The cleanup tool contains logic so that if it is run on an OS version that includes the .NET Framework as an OS component, it will not offer the option to clean it up. This means that running the cleanup tool on Windows XP Media Center Edition or Tablet PC Edition will not offer the option to clean up the .NET Framework 1.0, running it on Windows Server 2003 will not offer the option to clean up the .NET Framework 1.1 and running it on Windows Vista or Windows Server 2008 will not offer the option to clean up the .NET Framework 2.0 or the .NET Framework 3.0.
Besides I doubt is going on NET Framework

I suspect .net frame work because some games and other application really need .net frame work component to wock well.

The above suggestion is received from Microsoft support, when one of my client had that issue.

Hope the procedure will solve the issue
