BSOD after Vista SP1 install

Hey, I just fixed my computer after it had DMI pool data problems (it happened to be a bad video card), and I installed my usual stuff....Opera, Crysis, Steam and Avast antivirus. I then got a notification that said there was an update to be had (Vista SP1) so I shut off all open apps and installed it and let it be. It completed up to stage 2 of 3, then rebooted. Just after the vista loading scree, I got a BSOD with error code 0x0000003B. The computer restarted and I went into the BIOS and loaded the failsafe defaults. It POSTed fine, but again right after the loading screen I got the same BSOD with the same error code. I cant even log onto Vista, it goes straight from loading to crash. Why?

System:
Gigabyte GA-EX58-UD3R Mobo
Radeon HD4870 512
Core i7 920
6gb 1600 mhz memory

Re: BSOD after Vista SP1 install

Have you tried safebooting? if it works I tend to think video driver. If it does safe boot can you go into c:\windows\minidump, zip the dump file (*.dmp) and using the attachment icon (shaped like a paperclip) upload it to us to debug

thanks

Re: BSOD after Vista SP1 install

I can't safeboot. The keyboard seems to be nonresponsive after POSTing. (It's not the board's fault, I've tried three of them.)

C

I would suggest you remove anything that isnt critical, external drives, card readers, dvd, you might try pulling all the memory but 1 stick.

Aslo go into bios and se if you have either mam memory, or max cpu. If you have either they should be unchecked.

Re: BSOD after Vista SP1 install

I am running Vista Home Premium 64 on my PC and about a week ago I also got the BSOD with your same code 0x0000003B. There was a buletin stating that there was a couple of automatic updates that caused the problem. So I logged into Microsoft yesterday and had a software specialist remotely remove the specific updates and got my PC fixed. Got rid of the BSOD. Log in and chat with them and they will be more than glad to help you also.
