Vista won't boot after updates

Hi, last night before bed I clicked shutdown and install updates in Vista. I woke up this morning and my computer will not turn on. It leads me to this:

Windows failed to start. A recent hardware or software change might be the cause. To fix the problem:
1. Insert your windows installation disc and restart your computer.
2. Choose your language settings, and then click "next"
3. Click "repair your computer"
If you do not have this disc, contact your system administrator or computer manufacturer for assisance.
File: \Boot\BCD
Status: 0xc000000f
Info: An error occured while attempting to read the boot configuration data.

Now the problem I have is that I do not have vista installation dvd. I am currently studying abroad in Rome and will take more time than I have to receive the dvd in the mail. None of my friends here have one either, but they all have the same make and model computer that I do. Is it possible for one of them create a installation dvd that I could use? Or could they make a recovery disc that could as least get me to the system recovery options screen? Anyhelp is very appreciated.

Ok... Your screwed unless you have boot disks... or if your using a correct version, You might be able to press [f8] after the power screen and before the error shutdown page.
If you can see if you can run { start with the settings from last known startup}
if you can do that then great other ways... your screwed. I'd start looking for a new computer or just reload the op system, but Microsoft stopped giving that stuff out.

Best of luck
for now and for ever, Lightbulbs2

Re: Vista won't boot after install

lightbulb is somewhat correct

it will be a lot easier if you have either a backup to restore from, or the vista dvd.

in the mean time you can run a system file check to verify and repiar system files. to run it you go to start>search>type cmd>right click and run as admin>type
sfc /scannow

let us know the results

Re: Vista won't boot after install

Mine is hung up on the update. Says installing udate 3 0% and just keeps rebooting. Found out my disk drivers have been deleted by update. Wont even restore unless I do a complete restore!!Worse it happened in August also.Called microsoft they are trying to locate drivers after 5 hours with them! I am hearing that the updates is messing up computers!

Re: Vista won't boot after install

I didn't have any new updates except an update to windows update itself. Have you tried the sfc /scannow command?
