| Vista Home Premium 64bit. | why too many windows updates while shutdown? Hello, I've purchased a brand new hp pavillion laptop for 650$. HP - Pavilion Laptop(model:dv7 -1448x) with AMD Turion™ X2 Dual-Core Mobile Processor (4GB RAM,320GB hard drive). The initial configurations done as per the setup and wizard instructions provided by hp. After some time, suddenly the system performace was too slow and it has given me a huge shock and made me think like i've wasted my money! BUT after installed the windows updates, it's performance increased tremendously. There is always the alert which shows install Windows updates. Even when i tried to shutdown the system, it pops up 'Install Updates and shut down'. So i've installed the updates almost every day otherwise it will not allow me to perform any operations. Is this expected behaviour? Can't we work without installing any windows updates atleast for a month? I am afraid may be some performance issue on this model! Due to these every day installation of windows updates, its killing my hard drive like anything.. Intially, in C drive, the free space was 243 GB of 260GB, now its reduced to 225GB of 260GB. I am loosing my memory because of this updates. Please suggest what can i do to save my memory as well as to increase the performance of my system. I really thankful for any valuable suggestions! thanks in advance pannar |

MS will download ALL updates including non critical ones. they dl languages, game updates, ettc. Now you aren't losing memory you are losing disk space. you have plenty left. when you finally resolve this issue you can go thru the updates and uun-install the non critical ones. So change to notify but nodnt install, and finish letting the current batch install. hope this helps and let us know if you need help with this Ken |

| Windows Vista Enterprise x64 SP2 | Re: why too many windows updates while shutdown? If you drop to 20-30% remaining disk space, then some type of action is required. And it's quite common for "non techies" to confuse disk space with memory. You are in great shape with respect to drive space. |

| Vista Home Premium 64bit. | Re: why too many windows updates while shutdown? thanks so much for your responses! I apologise for the incorrect term used on memory instead of disk space! :-( Ahh.. i am the technical guy who is working on java technologies for more than 5 yrs.. i should accept that i am weak in system side as i am not system engineer. BTW, do you have any comments about this AMD processor performance? I've got this laptop in US some days back in bestbuy... i wanted to ensure that i can keep this laptop or return it back to the store, since i have little bit concerned about the system slowness.. after i get back to india and system doesn't work as expected some problems in the motherboard and drives, that will be my biggest frustration moment. :-( Norton Anti virus software already installed along with vista premium. may be its a trial version? I ran Advance System Care software to check the performance of my system. it finding the problems and automatically fixing the issues. is this a good tool? Is there anything else you would like to suggest to ensure my new system works with good performance. |
