MS09-054 patch and Firefox

I found this interesting. It seems those of us who have the .NET framework add-on installed in Firefox will have trouble with this Windows Update.

Tag » Windows Presentation Foundation « @ AskWoody.com

It's listed on my Updates as a security update for IE8- KB974455

This is still on my to do list. Anybody install it yet?

I installed it 3 days ago, just now I didn't notice any issue with WU or Firefox on my Vista x64.But on my Windows 7 x32 I had to disable NET Framework Assistance 1.1 in Firefox because browser informed about any problems with this pluggin.

Re: MS09-054 patch and Firefox

Hi Flavius,
I just got an error message from Firefox that said that the .NET Framework was interfering and to restart Firefox.
This happened without me downloading any updates.

In my Firefox add-ons, the .NET Framework Assistant 1.1 used to be there, but disabled with an uninstall option. Today, after the error messsge, it now has a red exclamation point next to it, and the 'enable' button is greyed out in favour of the 'uninstall' button. It would seem that Firefox wants me to uninstall this add-on?

If so, what do I do with KB974455?

By me after few browser restarts this add-one was again available and I disabled it pernamently.Maybe I also decide to uninstall it completely. If restarting browser don't help you or this error appear again uninstall this add-one.

In my opinion .NET Framework Assistant is defective not this hotfix.

EDIT Because again I have trouble with .NET Framework Assistant in Firefox I'll uninstall it completely

Flavius,
Check this out:
Apparently we don't need to do a thing since Firefox has already disabled the .NET Framework add-on...

MS09-054 patch zaps Firefox @ AskWoody.com

I am going to leave it disabled for now..

Re: MS09-054 patch and Firefox

Thx but I've already removed .NET Assistant and Windows Presentation Foundation and now no any problems. In my opinion they aren't really needed in browser.More troubles with it than useful.

EDIT

If anybody decide to remove .NET Assistant & WPF apart what MS say How to remove the .NET Framework Assistant for Firefox you have to do also this How To Uninstall Windows Presentation Foundation Plugin In Firefox
otherwise you still have WPF plugin in browser

G'day Peppur,

No worries and I've done same and am ignoring that Update for the same sentiments.

I like to steer clear of issues that throw up words like 'exploit' and 'vulnerable', and similarly will leave all, as is.

Cheers
