| Vista Home Premium x64 | "Windows could not search for updates code 80070424" I've been getting this for 3 days now. It started out of nowhere, but it keeps doing it over and over and over. I've tried many things suggested in other peoples threads, and nothing has worked so far. I even backed up and restored from last week before the issue started. Now I have different issues that are a minor annoyance and am sure will correct itself once I can get windows to update again. For some reason, I still only have SP1. I have auto updates turned on and always update when prompted. So I'm not sure why I still only have SP1. I tried the forced standalone update. But after 5-10 minutes of "preparing my computer" it says it failed the install. I've tried 10 different times even in safe mode. I think its time to start from scratch, maybe I did something wrong. But I really need some help with this please. I have Vista Home Premium 64 bit. |

I cant seem to extract :\Sources\Install.wim from my Vista DVD. I've tried 2 different ways using the 7-zip you suggested. it keeps saying failed each time I try it. What am I doing wrong? Please tell me step by step what I need to do because I'm obviously doing something wrong. 2.Find file X:\Sources\Install.wim right click on this file>>7-zip>>Open archive. In this archive navige to Windows\Servicing where is stored TrustedInstaller.exe, right click on it and choose "copy to" and choose any location where you have full access Because you have also x64 system, instead extract this file you can use this one from another the same thread: http://www.vistax64.com/attachments/...dinstaller.zip |

| Vista Home Premium x64 | Re: "Windows could not search for updates code 80070424" Now its telling me I dont have permissions to paste it into C:Windows\Servicing. Maybe thats why it kept failing earlier. How do I give myself permissions or what do I do now? |

| Vista Bussiness x64 PL | Re: "Windows could not search for updates code 80070424" 2.Copy TrustedInstaller.exe to this folder 3.Remove your account from permissions to Servicing folder 4.Restore ownership of Servicing folder back to "NT Service\TrustedInstaller" Useful links:Take Ownership of file TrustedInstaller - Restore as Owner Folder Permissions |

| Vista Home Premium x64 | Re: "Windows could not search for updates code 80070424" Ok, I took ownership and copied TrustedInstaller and pasted it into C:Windows\Servicing. I removed the permissions to the folder But when I go to restore ownership, this is what I get... "An object (User, Group, or Built-in security principal) with the following name cannot be found: "NT Service\TrustedInstaller". Check the selected object types and locations for accuracy and ensure that you have typed the object name correctly, or remove this object from selection." EDIT: I get that after clicking the "Check Names" button |

TrustedInstaller - Restore as Owner Yeah, I was following the instructions there and on step 6, where it said to click the "Check Names" button after entering in NT SERVICE\TrustedInstaller in the groups area and thats when I get that error. I just tried it again and am still getting "An object (User, Group, or Built-in security principal) with the following name cannot be found: "NT Service\TrustedInstaller". Check the selected object types and locations for accuracy and ensure that you have typed the object name correctly, or remove this object from selection." Basically my guess is its telling me there is no TrustedInstaller, even though I had pasted it into the Servicing folder and its still there. What do I do now? |
