| Vista Home Premium 64 bit | SP2 not available; sfc finds corrupt files My HP dv3T-2000 notebook running Vista Home Premium 64-bit has been showing a corrupt file error when I run sfc /scannow for a couple of months. Since the notebook runs fine, I'm not worried about it, but: 1. Windows Update says my system is up to date, and has not made SP2 available. 2. I don't want to try to force SP2 on it, because (from past experience with SP1 on other computers), it wouldn't install anyway until the corrupt file issue is resolved. 3. I have a free updgrade to Windows 7 coming soon and I suspect I can't use it until this problem is resolved. 4. I have only OEM recovery tools, not an original Vista install disk. I have tried using the HP system recovery thing, but the corruption remains. I have attached a couple of text files (suggested by Flavius in other posts on SP2 issues). They are from the CBS logs. The sfcdetails.txt file is a subset of cbs.log, selected using "[SR]" as a criterion. The checkSUR log was run in August. Can anyone advise me on resolving the corrupt file problem? |

Can anyone advise me on resolving the corrupt file problem? the Sfc log indicates that most of the important files were repaired. All files and registry keys listed in this transaction have been successfully repaired" The files that it couldnt repair were mostly sidebar files. Since you have win 7 upgrade forget sp2. Despite the fact that yo have the upgrade you can still do a clean install of win 7 and not have to worry about repairing it. Just make sure your data is backed up. The upgrade is really painless especially for the 32bit. If you need any help please ask. Pm me if ou need ken |

| Vista Bussiness x64 PL | Re: SP2 not available; sfc finds corrupt files I agree with @zigzag3143.CheckSur.log is OK and sfcdetails.txt report only settings.ini from gadgets. You can fully ignore this small error and independly what you choose install manully SP2 or upgrade to Windows 7 should work without any problems. |
