Why does vista keep updating?

Whenever I go to start, next to the red shutdown button, is the yellow update shield. I have practically updated 4 times in a day,,,why?

Re: Why does vista keep updating?

There is something wrong. Go to "available updates", right click on the updates and "hide" them. Hopefully they then won't bother you again.

Re: Why does vista keep updating?

er..where is available updates?

Besides I don't see how this even should constantly show the option to update. I guess it's either lying about upgrading or lying about me needing to upgrade.

Re: Why does vista keep updating?

Control Panel>Classic view>Windows Update

Depending on how new the installation is, it's not unusual for WU to keep getting updates.

Try reset the whole WU with aggressive mode How do I reset Windows Update components?

If it don't help read in Windows Update history what error messages do you have.
You can also try install these problematic hotfixes directly from Microsoft Download Center http://www.microsoft.com/DOWNLOADS/en/default.aspx ( not from Windows Update)

Re: Why does vista keep updating?

Er...it won't let me install some updates...could it be because I have symantec anti-virus which the maker of is gay because I cannot install the necessary updates for it without a serial number I have to submit (it runs, just doesn't report to windows security center in a "format" it understands)? Anyway I took a scan, and anyone can tell me what it means...

Re: Why does vista keep updating?

Do you have installed Office? Check this:You receive an "Error 80070643" error message when you try to update Office 2003 by using Software Update Services
If it is Office 2007 repairing methods will be a bit different.
If you don't have Office it may be caused by also 3p security software -uninstall symantec antivirus using Norton Removal Tool

If nothing help prepare log from VistaSysInfoTool (select all).Log attache to post
