New buggy updater

Hello!

I noticed that several weeks ago Microsoft changed the old good Updater to the new buggy one.

Sometimes I cannot install updates because I cannot select them! See the screenshots.

Week ago my hard drive died, so I bought new and reinstalled everything. Fresh system with old Updater updated well, but then new updater installed, and bug returned

Please help me to fix it. I cannot fix by myself because I have no source code of Updater (Microsoft does not publish source code of their products for unknown reason).

3.Try BITS repair An update is available to fix a Background Intelligent Transfer Service (BITS) crash on a Windows Vista-based computer

Re: New buggy updater

Ok below is solution for you from "Windows Help and Support"

Windows Update error 80240030

If you receive Windows Update error 80240030 while checking for updates, your proxy or firewall settings might be incorrect. This prevents Windows Update from connecting to the update server.
To correct proxy or firewall settings

  1. Click to open IE
  2. Click the Tools button, and then click Internet Options.
  3. Click Connections, click LAN Settings, and then click the Advanced button. If the Advanced button isn't enabled, skip the next two steps.
  4. Delete any entries in the Exceptions section, and then click OK.
  5. Click OK to close the Local Area Network (LAN) Settings dialog box, and then click OK again.
  6. Close Internet Explorer.
  7. Click the Start button .
  8. In the search box, type command prompt.
  9. In the list of results, right-click Command Prompt, and then click Run as administrator. If you're prompted for an administrator password or confirmation, type the password or provide confirmation.
  10. At the command prompt, type the following commands, pressing Enter after each one.
    netsh winhttp reset proxy
    net stop wuauserv
    net start wuauserv
  11. Run Windows Update again.
If the these steps don't correct the problem, follow the steps in the next procedure.
To Automatically detect proxy settings in Internet Explorer

  1. Click to open IE
  2. Click the Tools button, and then click Internet Options.
Click Connections, and then click LAN Settings.
  3. Select the Automatically detect settings check box, click OK, and then click OK again.
  4. Close Internet Explorer.
  5. Run Windows Update again.

Re: New buggy updater

Thank you for this information.

I already said that reinstall of the whole OS did not help since the new version of Updater is downloaded.

I found a simple solution that work for me: reboot. After the reboot I CAN select which update to install (list is not empty).
