Vista - updates fail to load error

i keep getting fail error messages after it reboots can't load updates these are them Cumulative Update for Media Center for Windows Vista (KB974306)

This error code addressed to damaged C:\Windows\Servicing and C:\Windows\WinSxS folders and registry keys

solutions:

1.Fill missing files & keys -worth only to try if damages are not too big -I have to diagnose it is worth to do or not.

2.Repair installation

follow to below:

1.Run cmd.exe with administrative previlliges (right click on cmd.exe) as admin and type:

sfc /scannow

When it finish type in cmd.exe

findstr /c:"[SR]" %windir%\logs\cbs\cbs.log >%userprofile%\Desktop\sfcdetails.txt

on your desktop appear sfcdetails.txt

2.Try reregister WU How do I reset Windows Update components?
3.Run Readiness Tool Description of the System Update Readiness Tool for Windows Vista, for Windows Server 2008, and for Windows 7
This tool even don't help create CheckSur.log file in C:\Windows\Logs\CBS\CheckSUR.log


4.Download firegenul Altair Technologies Ltd.
place firegenul.exe in C:\Windows\System32

next again run cmd.exe with admin previlliges and type:

firegenul

it creates report from WindowsUpdate.log and is stored in C:\Windows\System32 as FireGenReport.htm

FireGenReport.htm,CheckSur.log,sfcdetails.txt pack and attache to post

i went thru all steps still no fix i get thru upto stage 3 update then it reverts back error not configure correctly i dont know how to get checksur.log get error message in update page of code 80073712 if it helps

Of course all steps couldn't at once fix your issue.I have to analyze logs,then I try fill missing files & keys manually.Under posting area is attachments manager.The best way pack all files to *.zip and use attachments meanger to upload it.(Image below attached)

The tool report about corrupted these keys:

file
and folder

To these objects Administrators don't have full control,fighting with permissions is sophisticated here,thus I suggest fix it from Vista DVD level to workarround permissions

1.Download attached to post FixPacks.zip file -in zip file is packed Packs folder -you have to unpack it and place directly on C: exactly as I show below:


2.Boot Vista DVD (if you don't have Vista DVD instead use special recovery disk Create a Recovery Disc )
Choose language>>Repair Computer>>WinRE>>command prompt

and type:

robocopy C:\Packs C:\ /E /IS
reg load HKLM\REM_SOFTWARE C:\Windows\System32\config\Software
reg import C:\Packs\Fix.reg
del C:\Windows\Logs\CBS\CheckSur.log

next boot into system and try install hotfixes again,if it again fail again run Readiness Tool and attache new CheckSur.log file

i ran thru packs with vista dvd then i try to in stall updates but with same failure
so i ran thru test again and try to install readiness tool it would extract but no updates it stay same for long time with no update files below again

You should at once show sfcdetails.txt log -as you can see yourself from this file there are many damages also in C:\Windows folder -Readiness Tool can't detect damages in whole C:\Windows -it can only detect issues in C:\Windows\Servicing and in C:\Windows\WinSxS folders.In your situation like yours Readiness Tool even not working correctly it can't detect or recogonise all problems.There is no worth to fill missing files and keys otherwise you have to exchange manually half your system .

The best solution for you is Repair Install using Vista DVD SP2 or upgrade to Windows 7

if you don't have Vista DVD SP2 there are two methods to get it:

METHOD I

exchange Vista DVD How to replace Microsoft software or hardware, order service packs and product upgrades, and replace product manuals
it will cost about 20$

METHOD II

Prepare yourself sleapstreamed Vista SP2 Sliptream Vista SP2

You can also decide upgrade to Windows 7

maybe another solution is use System Restore System Restore - undo

first of all thank you for all help i went bought new hard drive reinstalled vista
still loading up some updates an software but i think for the best we did give it a shot for repair but proven for me to be tooo. much
time i really would like to devote somewere else
im planning to get new puter soon i will try windows 7 maybe will do me better
