    Update set me up

So I always keep all of my pictures and documents in the My Pictures and My Documents folder, until I got a random update through Microsoft for Vista, then when the update finished I got a cool new GUI with different icons and a different wallpaper.

I check my documents and pictures and they're gone, to which I then did a start search, I found all of my data and then cut-pasta'D it into the new and empty My Documents and My Pictures folders.

Everything was good, then I shut down my computer. When I got back on my computer the interface before the update came back on and my pictures/documents weren't in the old My Documents and My Pictures folders anymore, I moved them when the interface was new, now I cannot find them even with a start search but it only leads to the location they once were w/o bringing them, back.

My one and only account is administrator, so that can't be it, and I disabled Norton and did system restore but that didn't bring my files back, I used Recuva but none of my pictures/documents were in there.

What I am thinking is before the update my files were in location A, then after the update they were still in A and then I moved them to location B in the new GUI, after I shut down the whole windows interface reverted back to the old one with all of my data still in location B, but now using start search just tells me that my files are still in location A even though they are not, so my data's still on the hard drive somewhere.

I have a C drive and a D partition HP Recovery drive and the amount of drive space hasn't changed on either after the upgrade (then downgrade). Also it says 11 gigs of the HP Recovery drive are taken even though it's empty when I click on it.

I really want to get my vacation pictures and homework back, so if you took the time to read this, thank you.

System restore don't restore your private data although it create private data backup as well when checkpoint is created.Use shadow copy Previous Versions - Shadow Copy

So by using shadow copy, my problem should be fixed and I would be able to locate my images/documents? I have the Home Premium edition, so are you sure that ShadowExplorer can do the job? If I choose a date that's too old or too new will I get more chances to try again?

Theoreticaly should help, when checkpoint is created by system restore it create private data backup as well. This function work on Home versions as well only MS blocked option of private data backup restoration, when you'll install ShadowExplorer it will unblock it.Of course I can't give you my head it will work in 100%.I don't know which checkpoint is better but there is no obstacles to check all - Just try this program.

    Re: Update set me up

Since Shadow Copy isn't available to me because I am using the home premium edition,I had to use Shadow Explorer, here is what happened:

I was able to find my files in the point-in-time drop down list which went back to 11/5/09 where my files were, I then exported it into my other hard drive, about half way through it starts saying that it cannot export certain files, then the program says that it's not running correctly, so I close it, now the earliest point-in-time date is 11/9/09, and I cannot find a way to make it show the earlier date like it did last time, I tried rebooting my computer, reinstalling shadow explorer and system recovery (which oddly only went as far back as 11/9/09 as well) is there a method of setting it to an earlier date or is there a different program to use?
