Slipstream Windows Updates? Not SP1 or SP2.

Hello. I work as a computer repair technician on a college campus and had a question about windows updates. A little background, we do anywhere from 1 to 10 Vista installs a day, any version, mostly 32bit. We do have a program that will automatically install the OS for us and even some programs that we preconfigured. Pretty much we just enter the key and come back when the desktop appears. The install already contains SP1 and SP2. The problem comes when we go to update Vista, it takes FOREVER it seems like.

So my question is, is there any harm in downloading the Vista updates as standalone and having our Installer Program install them when the OS finishes installing. Is there a certain order that they have to be installed in? I also noticed that the Windows Update program installs some updates, has you restart, and then installs some more updates, and restart again. Would we have to restart in between update installs?

I've searched this forum and all over google and the only thing i can find is slipstreaming SP1 and SP2. We are just trying to make the install process faster so we can return the student computers back to them.

Thanks for any help!

Theoretically there is no certain order to install hotfixes but practically may happen any unexpected surprises

Would we have to restart in between update installs?
I think so

another method would be to integrate the updates into the install media using vlite vLite - Windows Vista configuration tool and here is link to download the updates since service pack 2 come out RyanVM.net Discussion Board :: View topic - Vista X86 & X64 Post SP2 Updates_Dec_2009 very easy to do. that would save you tonnes of time and numerous restarts.

vlite still don't support SP2 and mostly post SP2 Updates require SP2 installed to install these

according to his post the service packs are already installed,
The install already contains SP1 and SP2
so he would then need to do is open that install and integrate the updates

I understand now your point of view, but I still have doubt:
Because vlite don't support SP2 I doubt it can correct integrate post SP2 updates too.I think so.

you could always implement a script to restart after the updates and then implement another after those. Some of the updates for the system require another windows update for the pc to be completely up to date, unfortunately a restart is required to re-update the update. alternatively if you are really hardcore with C++ and Visual basic you could edit the updates to slipstream the updates into one file and thwart the restart progress. But this could take months by yourself. Remember Microsoft probably has over 1000 people working on updates daily.
