Windows Update Causes PC To Crash

I have had a number of Windows updates and each time the PC has crashed when they have tried to be installed.

Today I tried again and allowed one installation KB 979306. This failed to install and I got an error code 8024200D. The update that caused the crash was KB 979099. These are both classed as important.

Any ideas what I should do or what the problem may be?

Anything else I can try?

Another method to find older "Application Compatbility" Updates and uninstall them and next install the newest ones.

You can also try this (sometimes it also work):

1.Reregister WU in aggressive mode How do I reset Windows Update components?
2.Run cmd.exe with admin previlliges (right click on cmd.exe) as admin and type

sfc /scannow
3.Uninstall 3p security software

if really nothing help:

1.Run Readiness Tool Description of the System Update Readiness Tool for Windows Vista, for Windows Server 2008, for Windows 7, and for Windows Server 2008 R2
2.Prepare log from VistaSysInfoTool (select all) http://www.vistax64.com/tutorials/176785-vistaforums-sysinfo-tool.html
3.Find in C:\Windows\Logs\CBS folder CheckSur.log and CBS.log

All files CheckSur.log,CBS.log,log from VistaSysInfoTool pack to *.zip or *.rar and attache to post

Had difficulty installing the Readiness Tool as I got an error code. Followed the instructions for this and managed to install the Hotfix. After this the updates all installed without any problem.
