Recent update causes programs to stop

I'm running Windows Vista Business x64 with Service Pack 2.

A recent update has causes programs to freeze and require a restart, the main one is Windows Explorer where I get an error message that says "Windows Explorer is not responding" and I can either restart, close, or wait for program to respond. Restarting works fine but will happen again.

If I restore the system back before the update then it works fine until the update is downloaded and installed again.

Anyone have any ideas on how to fix the problem?

As of now my only solution is to keep my system restored to an earlier date and making sure it doesn't update the system ever again. Through internet searches I haven't been able to find a solution either.

Just hide the update in question. You can update with future updates.

Thanks Rich,
I went into Windows Update and right-clicked on the update and selected hide update.

Just for reference, the update is called "Update for Internet Explorer 8 Compatibility View List for Windows Vista for x64-based systems (KB980302).

Just so you know, since I installed that update, I am beginning to have a MINOR freeze problem. I just tried a system restore to see what happens. My update is for Windows 7, but it is for the same purpose.

Wow, please let me know if the restore works.

I have a call into our computer technician just to see what his thoughts are and if he's run into the problem with other clients.

Just keep your eye on the forum. There will be a number of posts if the problem is wide spread. Keep an eye on this thread, I will inform you too, if I see others.

Thanks for the rep.
