This option of error
80080005 (don't mistake with other options of this error code) relate to corrupted TrustedInstaller's viscera in CBS key or in WinSxS folder, that means you have corrupted/missing
HKLM\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Component Based Servicing\Version key or folder whom is pointed by this key (name of this folder depends from update system status and architecture) more discussion is here
Cannot update anything, 80080005
It is one of the most terrible WU issues as I've ever met.
As far as I know many times this happend with other issues with WinSxS/CBS too, theoretically sometimes is possible to fix this terrible issue but not always (apart mentioned repair installation, but becuase it is laptop from HP it is impossible to apply for you)
Upgrading to Windows 7 require at least Vista SP1
So if you decide to attempt to fight with this error please follow below
1.run
cmd.exe with administrative previlliges (right click on cmd.exe as admin) and type:
cd /d C:\Windows\WinSxS
press ENTER
dir /s /b >%userprofile%\Desktop\log.txt
press ENTER
on your desktop appear log.txt file
2.Make sure you have this key:
HKLM\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Component Based Servicing\Version
if yes please export this key from the registry and save it under any name and show it us here.
3.Find CBS.log file
All files: log.txt, exported HKLM\...\Version key and CBS.log please attache to post or upload on
