Hi
I've got an Acer Aspire 5920 running Windows Vista Home Premium with SP1 installed.
Like many others, I can't install Vista SP2. The machine reports an error on shutdown, then aborts the install at 6% on restart, and reverts. The report says "Element not found ... ERROR_NOT_FOUND (0x80070490)". I've been through many, many suggestions, including those provided by an MS tech person, but it still won't install.
The only thing I can think of is that it may be due to a problem with wlanapi.dll. When I run sfc / scannow I get errors for this file. I've copied in the relevant bit of the CBS log below. I'm not absolutely sure this is the cause of the SP2 update problem, but I'd like to rule it out. Can anyone tell me how to correct the wlanapi error please? I can't reload the file from disk as the machine came with Vista preloaded and without master disks.
Note that wlanapi.dll is not malfunctioning -- the wireless modem works just fine. The only sign that anything's wrong with the machine is that the SP won't install. I'd be hugely grateful for any help with this. I've been trying to fix this for over two months and it's driving me mad.
