vista slow after windows update and fav's question

Johannes

Closed as requested
After the last windows updates my pc is extremely slow starting I.E 8, some web sites and windows mail. This happens intermittently, does anyone has the same problem and/or know how to fix this? (the same happened on our other pc with Windows XP home). Another pesky problem is that I can not seem to delete the favoreds bars and other MS web sites. See attachment. None of this is a serious problem for us, but it would be nice if it could be fixed. thanks.

Use system restore from a point before the updates*. You will then get all the updates again. Make sure that you change the settings to let you install yourself. Then put the updates in one by one, and test. When you find the bad one(s), uninstall and right click to hide. In the future download the updates as I described.
System Restore
Windows Update - Hide or Restore Hidden Updates
Windows Update Settings - Change
For Vista and Windows 7

I do not think that the favorites bar can be removed. It is suppose to be a convenience, any favories put in that folder will appear near the address bar, on top, for easy access. I do not know how you got more than one, however.

*You could uninstall each, but I prefer to use system restore if you do not have to go to far back.

Hi Richard,
I tried the system restore, but it did not complete the task. I shall try another date tomorrow, but I/we have had this problem several times that system restore did not work. I am not sure if other people have had this problem with SR.
I did try to delete those fav's entries separately in "manage favoreds", but they just went to the bottom like it is shown on the attachment. however, it is only a slight annoyance and does not to be fixed.

System restore will work if it is performing correctly and you go back far enough. If it is defective you have to uninstall manually. I left instructions for all the scenarios.
Good Luck

To fix system restore you have to disable System Protection for the momemt:

Go to Control Panel >>System Protection and turn off system protection, apply and next turn on system protection back.

Of course consequences of this method is losing all checkpoints.

Thank you for the replies and help. In addition to the suggested steps, I disabled the add-ons on both pc's and I.E. 8 works again like it did before. It seems to have been an issue with the flash player, but I am not sure. It maybe worth mentioning if someone else encounters the same problem.

Always keep your flash plug ins up to date and uninstall old versions.
I think after update 10 they did the uninstall for you with the new install.
