Hello,

I had a total of 15 important Windows Security updates installed one by one on:

08.11.2010 - 10 successful updates installed
08.12.2010 - 4 successful updates installed

Issue: Security update for Microsoft Works 9 (KB2092914)
Failed to install successfully

08.12.2010 - 4 attempts to download and install
08.16.2010 - 1 attempt to download and install
08.28.2010 - 1 attempt to download and install today



Kindly advise what to do next.

I do not understand why you so hurry with reinstalling OS,although he surly has a few methods to verify

i.e

Error code "0x80070646," "646," or "1606" when you try to install Office updates
You receive an "Error 1606" error message when you try to install or remove a Microsoft program

this methods affect on MS Works too.If really nothing help I would suggest try completely reinstall MS Works...

My apolagise. When I said you can install microsoft windows for free at microsoft.com I meant microsoft works for free. The whole thing. It helps you of course if you validate your computer on request by them, which you will see at their web site. That helps you also get other free stuff.

Should you get any other messages from your update saying it could not update the thing then it is best to save time and grief and just visit microsoft.com and then type the error number into their search engine. It should take you to a page where that particular file is kept and you can download it manually. Just highlight and then save the file and then later open up the file and click on it and it should upload and download itself. That is what they mean by downloading manually.


I am also using microsoft works to write with as sadly my computer did not come with microsoft word already installed. Word is far superior but works does a few jobs to satisfaction. I noticed that you cannot copy cut and paste easily into works as it claims the file to be too large. If you encounter that problem then go into programs and open up note pad or preferably word pad which is the better of the two. Then paste into word pad and then copy from word pad back into microsoft works then it will all go into works.

I just thought I might send you that useful little gem in case you encountered that hassle.

I know what a hassle it is having that red update refusal always being at the top of the page. Even though I know how to delete it when you know it says important you feel you need it even if it is on a programmes you do not use.

I had my update problem going for over a week one time past and now it isnt even a concern if such a thing happenes again knowing how to resolve it takes away the problem.

There are a few reasons why the update fails but now when the problem happens again and it is just bound to then at least it is known how to resolve it.
