I have done a factory restore on a dell laptop and am trying to download service pack 1. have been unable to do so.
i was instructed to run the windows update tool "Microsoft Fixit50202 and click aggressive (noticed my computer slowed down after this! and had trouble getting windows to open!)
then to download and run the system update readiness tool.

then to download "Flashget"
download the ALL LANGUAGE VERSION rather than the 5 language version of service pack 1 (ms technician said it was better and i was unable to download the 5 language version when i tried it first)
then to do a clean boot and try to install service pack 1.

did all of the above and the installation failed.

anyone had the same problem or know what to do?
oh and i uninstalled the antivirus before doing anything.
thanks.

If you have such issue after fresh install I would suspect you have any hardware issue or problem with compatbility (e.g defective any driver)

Try install SP1 in safe mode

any way to check for that?
If you have any bluescreens, sometimes system stuck or unexpected restarts then answer is easy.
Sometimes you seem don't any problem with the OS only with installing any update -here it's hard to find source of problem -to verify CBS.log,setupapi.dev.log but note many times diagnosing these files is ineffective.

If don't have visible hardware issue, compatbility issue try install SP1 in safe mode as I said -sometime easy tricks are better than hard diagnostics -although not always...

also do you know why the all language version was recommended rather than the 5 language?
In my opinion if you have english language version it make no difference you attempt to install 5 languages or all languages.Ask about it person who gave this advice :p
