Accidently re-installed vista

Stupid thing I did, I tried to use Vista repair tool that was supposed to be on the Vista install CD, hoping to fix my USB problem and I re-installed vista instead. Now is there a way to go back to my old User and installed files or do I have to start from fresh?

Any help appreciated, thank you

Is there a file/folder in the root directory of C:\ called Windows.old?

If so we have a better chance than if not (and, in fact, a pretty good chance of getting back the data though not much more than that - no settings, no other programs, no user profile (other than the data since the rest pretty much depends on information that can't be recovered),...). Here's how: How to restore your personal files after you perform a custom installation of Windows Vista or of Windows 7.

If not, there's a small possibility and we can try but chances are not good. Post back if that's the case and I'll provide some recovery program options.

I hope this helps.

Good luck!

Thanks again, spent most of the day almost getting my PC back to the way it was because of one mistake, good thing I keep most of my set up files. Worst of all it didn't solve my USB problem.
