Recent Updates Killed Vista Business

Yesterday, 13 October, there were quite a few updates installed on my Vista Business 32 bit / Dell Lattitude D530. After that the machine would try to start Windows, show the BSOD for an instant and restart repeatedly.

I could start it in Safe Mode but found I had no restore points to go back to. After backing up all my data, I deleted the partitions and did a fresh install of Vista Business. Everything worked again. Then I installed over 80 critical updates and everything still worked. Installed MS Office, all still working... Machine was faster than it had been in a very long time :)

But my Internet Explorer was only up to ver 7 so I installed the 20 something optional Windows updates which killed the OS again :( I was able to restore to a time before updates were installed and am in the process of installing critical updates again...

Any other victims? Have you identified which of this week's updates are killing Vista Business?

I have a very similar problem!
After the 13th update I have BSOD; but for me no safe mode working. I tried system restore, nothing to do. Some update has killed my Vista x64.
Suggestions? I need to remove the last updates!

I was able to get into safe mode with networking by holding F8 as the machine restarted. This did not work when the machine was restarting it's self but did work for me after I powered the machine down and started fresh.

Once in safe mode you should be able to back up your data to an external drive, reinstall the OS, and install the critical updates only. That is where I am right now... My system is working again BUT I'm 22 optional updates short.

Before you install those updates try the following to allow them to install properly:

Press the Windows Key + R

In the Run Command type : msconfig

Select the "Services" tab

Check the box entitled, "Hide all Microsoft services"

Click "Disable all"

Click "Apply"

Click "Ok"

Install and you should be good.
