Ok so i had a problem with my vista home premium 32 bit and i had to reformat the harddrive to facory setting. once it starts up fotr the fist time i connect to the internet and chck for updates with windows updates and it goives me 131 updates. so i install them and 2 errors come up:

ERROR 1:
I install all updates at the same time but after its done it said 82 updates did not install correctly. I was reading some threads and found out that some of this updates don't get along with each other so, i install them again, for example i install all the ones that say UPDATE FOR WINDOW VISTA (KBXXXXXXX) ALL AT THE SAME TIME AND RESTART and search for updates again and install another group with similar names.
>>(this error i already solved but to me i seems it has something to do with the second error so i thought it was a good idea to let you guys know.)<<

ERROR 2: sometimes after i search for updates i wait for them to install and it said i need to restart so i do it, but when i restart i get to the windows boot screen (http://www.petri.co.il/images/vista_boot_screen_1.gif)and instead of restarting and the it goes black and the systems shutdowns but no blue-screen appears. after that i press the power button and everything works fine but when it logs me on it says windows has recover from an unexpected shutdown.

is this really bad? do i have to reformat my hard drive again? can anybody help me?

Hi,

I had this issue for a while.

It appears the MS select updates that your system isn't ready for until others have been installed - inter-dependancy.

Please continue to update throught the update website & all will sort it self out, eventually.

I have an HP a1719n Desktop it came Preinstall with Windows vista home premium x86(OEM)

It Restarts after updates and takes me to the windows boot screen and instead of finishes up the restarting process it just shutdowns. it does this every time i need to restart for something.

>>>>>>>>*******Also i tired to manually restart the system just to see it if would do the same thing and it does. it keeps doing it until whether i go to safe mode or whenever if feels to start all the way up to the desktop.***********<<<<<<<<<<<

And that's about it and thanks again.

BSODs which you posted relate to any damages in the system

1.Run cmd.exe with elevated previlliges (right click on cmd.exe and choose "run as administrator") and type:

sfc /scannow

2.Download & run Readiness Tool Description of the System Update Readiness Tool for Windows Vista, for Windows Server 2008, for Windows 7, and for Windows Server 2008 R2
this will create CheckSur.log file in C:\Windows\Logs\CBS folder.

Attache to post CBS.log and CheckSur.log -if these files are too big to attache here then upload them on RapidShare AG, Cham, Switzerland

i have uploaded the CBS.log to The Website you gave me here is the link: http://rapidshare.com/files/426382526/CBS.log2526/CBS.log

And flavius, Windows Vista Service Pack 1 Just showed up on windows updates but i just manually downloaded it form Microsoft I rather install it manually then through windows update.
Should i install it manually or just don't install it at all for right now?

This error says:to install KB955430 you need TrustedInstaller version v6.0.6001.18000 but you have older v6.0.6000.16649
(Servicingstack -it's TrustedInstaller kernel in WinSxS)

This means it require from you SP1.Do you have installed SP1 or not?If you really don't have SP1 installed then please install it from Microsoft Download Center (not from Windows Update).

Ok Flavius i just manually installed SP1, Had to restart a few times and the startup process did not finish it kept shutting down and restarting until i pressed escaped to get to the boot menu and jst selected my hard-drive to load up and then selected "Start windows normally "that's why i took so long, but it made it, SP1 is now installed, but i still have the problem every time i restart it would not finish the start up process it would either shutdown after the windows boot screen or restart endlessly.

-Update drivers for chipset

If really nothing help run checkdisk on boot http://www.vistax64.com/tutorials/67612-check-disk-chkdsk.html

Some peoples reported that this error maybe caused by any problems with hdd or IDE controlers too -if nothing help use any better tool to diagnose hdd Hard Drive Diagnostics Tools and Utilities (Storage) - TACKtech Corp..

I Updated chipset driver, install SP2, I am currently installing the rest of the updates.
I Uninstall AVG 9(LIKE YOU TOLD ME), Limewire, And CCleaneR(OTHER 3RD PARTY SOFTWARE, I JUST WANTED TO BE SURE), i downloaded and intall the Hardrive tool For SEAGATE from the website you provided. Hi,

Microsoft selects updates (as a package) & your system isn't always 100% ready for them, so these become inter-dependant during selection & installation.

Unfortunately they do not always get it right.

I am pleased to see you are now sorted.

Your question is not easy to answer

Although these articles are very ancient and applicable for olders systems many things described there are still up to date.

Summary:

This error is caused by working of Winlogon.exe or Csrss.exe or any module/driver used by both *.exe file.It would be also 3p module/driver too.

reasons are very different:
Corruptions in registry/incorrect values in registry, defective drivers/modules (sometimes it may caused by virus too),possibly (like for you) it would be also issue with compatbility

Sometimes this error is also caused by corrupted hdd or IDE controllers
examples:

STOP:c000021a(Fatal System Error) The Session Manager Initialization system process terminated unexpectedly with a status of 0xc000026c (0x00000000 0x00000000) The system has been shut down
BSOD 0xC000021A Fatal Error - Tech Support Guy Forums

Generally,if it is only system issue, updating system & drivers is enough to solve problem.Sometimes it require to verify registry keys too (especially if it's issue with Winlogon.exe)

Your problem relate to issue with Csrss.exe

this one you had in your BSODs...

KERNEL_LOG_FAILING_PROCESS: csrss.exe
+
BugCheck C000021A, {8fab6828, 0, c0000001, 100408}

Probably caused by : ntkrpamp.exe ( nt!KiFastCallEntry+12a )
Back to only your problem:

I recommend to install MSE http://www.microsoft.com/security_essentials/

IMO you can safely back to Limewire because SP2 disable half-open TCP connections limit, and surly it can't cause any more issue even it did before although I doubt -there is no errors with tcpip.sys,netio.sys,ndis.sys or likely in your dump files.CCleaner is also safely program and surly never harm your system.Neverless keep your eyes opened for a while on your system especially if you install any tool to menage drivers, images, network connections and security software different than MSE -such kind of tools may potenatially cause any problems.

I hope the problem will never back.

1.Disable services Superfetch and ReadyBoost ,remove all in C:\Windows\Prefetch next run cmd.exe with administrative previlliges (right click on this file as admin) and type

rundll32.exe advapi32.dll,ProcessIdleTasks

+restart

2.Disable built-in disk defragmenter (see this tutorial http://www.vistax64.com/tutorials/72832-disk-defragmenter.html OPTION I) and use any good 3p e.g Perfect Disk

3.This is HP laptop and surly there are lots of bloatware, worth to see closer them, you gave already some information about drivers in any previous post -I'll check it tomorrow.Additionaly you can prepare log from OTL http://oldtimer.geekstogo.com/OTL.exe

leave defaults settings, logs attache to post

From my experience the second one can really slow down boot time.Although removing it is a bit sophisticated it's worth to do that.If you want I could help in that.

Probably I could optimize something more but I need log from OTL (my previous post),if you want rid of Bonjour I will need also log from SilenRunners http://www.silentrunners.org/Silent Runners.vbs (right clik on link and choose "Save as",this is vbs script),logs attach to post.
