Hi I have Home Basic 32bit. When I try to update Net Family 3.5 I get qan error message 80070673. Any help? I tried system restore but it didn't help.

Please remove NET Framework 3.5 by using NET Framework Cleanup Tool .NET Framework Cleanup Tool User's Guide - Aaron Stebner's WebLog - Site Home - MSDN Blogs
(not through Programs and Features) and reinstall 3.5

Sorry, I just realised that I haven't gone back far enough in system restore. But when I try to create a resore point to an earlier date by selecting an update event from the past, it comes up as a restore point but with today's date on it, even though it states that date & time will be automatically added. Thanks for help & suggestions.

Note the .NETfx Cleanup Utility works best if the user goes into Programs and Features via Control Panel (Add or Remove Windows Components) and unchecks ".NETfx 3.5."
This will require a restart.
The newest build includes .NETfx 4! (at Mr. Stebner's site.)
At boot, make sure you're disconnected from the internet and that other interfering programs, such as antivirus programs are closed. I have no reason to substantiate this, but read it from the source.
Run the .NETfx Cleanup Utility and restart.
Here's a copy & paste of the proper Order of Operations to re-install the .NETfx, courtesy of Arshad Imam (I don't have a direct link to the site.) KB891965 is a key article.
NOTE*** .NETfx 1.1 IS ARGUABLY COMPATIBLE WITH VISTA x64. PLEASE IGNORE ANYTHING RELATING TO THAT MENTIONED IN THIS POST!
