Update for Intel display - why now?

Today Auto Updates gave me an update called "Intel - Display G45/G43 Express Chipset" and I installed it. The screen gave me a dialog saying I'm not set at 1600x1200 (I'm set at 1600x900 which I thought was correct). Also the system tray icon for the Intel Graphics Driver is different.

Also it said this update was published in August 2010, so why did I get it just now?

There's no usual number for this update, just a text title. From Googling I could find nothing.

I have found this informtion on the update. I agree, dont use the WU to install drivers etc. Go to the website and do it your self. Some updates are received in error others are late.

WU for "Intel Corporation - Display - Intel(R) G45/G43 Express Chipset" driver causes black screen for quite a few people.

How to Find Drivers
search Google for the name of the driver
- compare the Google results with what's installed on your system to figure out which device/program it belongs to
- visit the web site of the manufacturer of the hardware/program to get the latest drivers (DON'T use Windows Update or the Update driver function of Device Manager).

Actually, for Intel video drivers, I'd go via the WUer.

I don't think the article is about the ops driver... its dated july, drivers an August driver.
Its from August, and just got now, because it takes that long for Intel to get it over to M$ who then gets it ready for WU.

Infact, the Aug one is the newest...

Try a system restore, and it should remove the new driver.

The icon changed because intel weanted to change it.
