.net framework update failed

I was doing my normal thing with auto updates to Vista home premium when I got the message that ===

Security Update for Microsoft .NET Framework 4 on Windows XP, Windows Server 2003, Windows Vista, Windows 7, Windows Server 2008, Windows Server 2008 R2 for x64-based Systems (KB2539636) failed to install. I tried several more times with no luck. As a matter of fact, I can't stop the update from trying to install every time I boot up (every day).

I have an HP Pavilion desktop and have never had a problem before. My C drive is not even half full. I have 4 GB of memory.

Please help!

Hi TeamanFl, this may be of some help, I know your's is 64-bit and this is 32-bit but it may be of some help, Patch41

If the solution from Patch does not work set the updater to notify but not install.
then when the update arrives right click and then hide. It will not bother you again. You will be able to install if you ever find the cause of the problem

Thanks for the info, but this did not work. As a matter of fact I now have 3 updates that don't work (2 came in after this discussion started). All have to do with the net framework. Don't I need this function??

I think i would take Rich46 as when i googled code 66a i came up with this bit of information, So i would right clich on the update and hide it, Patch41

I just uninstalled the .net framework 4 client with the clean up tool

.NET Framework Cleanup Tool User's Guide - Aaron Stebner's WebLog - Site Home - MSDN Blogs

Then I used the the standalone installer

Download Details - Microsoft Download Center - Microsoft .NET Framework 4 Client Profile (Standalone Installer)

After that the updates started working again
