Instalation and Upgrade

My computer has repeated this upgrade over a dozen times. It says it was done successfully, but 5 minutes later it wants to do it again.
Security Update for Windows Vista (KB2633171)

Possibly related, I can't get adobe reader or flash player to install. Their installers self delete and I end up with just the box shadow on my screen until I sign out.

Are these problems related? I already disabled my security to try and get it to work.

Foxit reader did finally install, but it took it's sweet time about it.

Hiding the upgrade isn't the issue. That like smearing plaster over a dead body in your wall. It hides it, but doesn't solve the core problem.
