Any solution yet to error code (80070)641?

I notice a few people have already posted re error code 641 and not being able to install certain updates. Currently I can't install Windows Security Updates KB2690729; KB2656405; KB2604121; KB2604111. However other updates are installing okay. Amongst other things, I tried a system restore - but I couldn't see a way to date the restore point earlier than 10th May. The problem predates this time - probably first occurring around 7th or 8th - so, not surprisingly, this effort made no difference. Might a restore work if I can go back further? - and, if so, how do I manage it? Better yet, has anyone come up with a solution to this 641 problem that has actually worked? I've tried several auto fixes, plus various other suggestions I came across here or on other sites, but nothing helps. If the 4 updates in question weren't "important" I'd be tempted to just hide them - as subsequent ones seem to be installing okay. Mind you, I've a feeling this problem will only crop up again if ignored. It's driving me mad. I'd really appreciate some help/advice. I'm fairly crap (blonde) with the technical side of things so the simpler the instructions so the better chance I'll have of following them.
Cheers in advance. LF

Hi, Richc46 - at last! Seriously, last night no answers were showing here. Anyway, thank you for taking the time.
Re system restore point dates - there just aren't any earlier dates available as far as I can see. Originally I'd assumed I'd be able to manually type in any old date of my choosing. But, thinking about it now, I realise that's stupid - it's a laptop, not a time machine. I guess the pre-created date/point I wanted has been deleted to make way for newer restore points. I think I missed it by a day or so. The only consolation is that it probably never mattered anyway. I don't think there's a restore point in world history that could undo ba$tard error code 641. Nothing seems to work. Granted, I have no real computer mending skills of my own, but I've thrown everything in my normally reliable System Mechanic arsenal at the annoying little git. It's totally bulletproof... Or is it?
The question again - Has anyone here had any luck solving the problem of 641? If so, then please come forward and share your experiences. Spread the love!
Cheers, LF.

PS: Gilligan - it makes you want to launch your whole machine out the window after a while, doesn't it? I'll be looking for your own thread on the subject when I'm done here. Btw, my own experience with Reg Fix confirms Richc46's advice - don't even bother.
