    it just gives an error 57...the troubleshooters aren't resolving.

    Code 57 usually refers to registry. The only way to fix that is to reinstall or try a repair install. Do you have a Vista install CD?

    No I don't have a Vista Install Cd. Is that something that I can get online? sigh. School starts Monday..eeekk!

    I cant guarnatee anything but I do know you will lose all your stuff, so back up first.
    If this link works, you will have a new install. You have to put all your software back and update too. Again, your stuff will be lost unless you back up.

    You must have a product key number. It can usually be found on your computer.

    Warning, if the procedure does not work, you will have bigger problems than you have now.

    I don't believe I am qualified to do all that. I have never backed anything up except a car and truck...haha. however, I do appreciate all your help!

    Its actually quite simple, and made even simpler with our help :-)

    In order to create a backup of your computer, just go into your search box (found in your start menu) and enter the word "backup", you'll see the backup and restore center and from there its just a few buttons to be pressed.

    You may want to back up on an external hard drive. If you back up on the same hard drive that you are installing to, it may be gone too. Dont think you can use Backup and restore on an external.

    What I actually did was pray today. I prayed for help. Help for my pc that I will be needing for this school semester which starts in a few hours. When I came home from church today and got on my pc, it said I had 57 updates. That same number 57 was trying to give me the blues yesterday, gave me joy today. I was able to download those updates (unlike yesterday and Friday) and then open the school zip file to download the microsoft office that I needed to begin with. Just a reminder that I am in the right place, doing the right thing for the right reason. Prayer does change things..and God is ALWAYS right on time.
    Just wanted to tell you that since you helped me. Thank you for your assistance.
