Solved IE 8 fails to open a wikipedia file

typo

Banned
For the first time, I am unable to open one particular Wikipedia article on the web. So far just one. It has something to do with MIME type file that Windows does not recognize .

Absolutely clueless. Anyone has encountered this? How does this differ from other wikipedias.

Resetting? Are you sure? Seems so drastic.

All you are doing is setting IE8 back to it's default. So it is like when you first set up you IP page, when I did mine I did not lose anything your just resetting it to default.

I want to know if you will reset if you fail to open this one actor's file out of the whole cast of sitcom MODERN FAMILY. Wikipedia has a long article on this TV show with a full listing of it cast whose names are individually clickable for more information(also by wikipedia). ALL except Jesse Tyler Ferguson

Hello

Thank you Rich.

I hope you get your system back the way you want it. As I stated it won't hurt anything, your just resetting it back to the original spec's.

Thank you

I beg to disagree.

Just because resetting is harmless it should be done at the drop of a hat. In my case it can be tedious......for nothing (if it is not the solution). It's like re-setting a dozen clocks and watches with DST (which by the way is in two days...just a reminder.) I had done it on occassions and I never liked to type back data and forms and even passwords on lots of accounts that require them. And it never was the solution.

I don't know what happened, but just now I was able to open that wiki file I had problem viewing before....without having to reset....or do anything. Could it be a temporary prob of the file?

Opened fine in Firefox as well, Try a system file check if you are worried about the reset.
Start menu type cmd, hold shift and ctrl down and press enter
In the Administrator command prompt box that opens type
SFC /SCANNOW
If it finds errors run it again, up to 3 times with a restart after each.

Without doing resetting or sfc scanning or clean boot, actually NOTHING (I chose not to do anything since it was just a super mini-glitch)..... I am back to perfect operation. ZERO problem.

I googled this problem and did find a few blogs on IE and Firefox and their RANDOM failure to open some (NOT ALL)Wiki files...and found no soultions...only lots of suggestions that did not work. Oddly, one claimed he woke up one morning and found the problem had disappeared on its own....all of the sudden

Today, I came back from tennis and found my PC soooo perfect. ZERO problems...WIKI and all. Sometimes it pays to just play tennis.
