PLEASE HELP! Side-by-side configuration error on ALL programs

Okay, so my computer (Toshiba Satellite M305-S4848) was working perfectly fine this morning, then it died because the charger fell out. When I tried to turn it back on, it said that Windows could not start up & took me to the start up repair screen. Apparently, it tried to repair itself & let me start my computer up, but now, whenever I try to open ANY program, it has that side-by-side configuration error. When I tried searching for a solution, other forums said to open a command prompt and type in sfc /scannow which I did & it gave me the results, but now IDK what to do...someone please help!!!

Hello!

That report has given us a good starting point. I cannot deal with it now, as I am currently at school - this evening please :)

The most important step is this one, although please follow all of the advice there, and the SFC has already given us a good starting block.

STEP TWO:

This step will be more helpful, but is more complex.

1: Get three different programs which all generate this error message lined up ready to run.

2: Open an elevated Command Prompt. Elevated Command Prompt

3: Type sxstrace trace -logfile:sxstrace.etl into the Command Prompt window, and press enter ONCE! Set it continue to log!

4: Start the first program. Let it generate the error message, and OK out of the error message. Once the program has closed, start the next program. Once this one has closed, start the last one. Make sure that all three generate an error. I need you to make absolutely sure that you do not run programs that work while logging!

5: Go back to the Command Prompt and press enter again to end the logging.

6: Type sxstrace parse -logfile:sxstrace.etl -outfile:%userprofile%\Desktop\sxstrace.txt and press enter.

Upload the file sxstrace.txt from your Desktop.

Thanks!

Richard

Hello!

Please read the thread linked earlier in its entirety. My message here is basically the same. We can fix this, but it will probably take a couple of pages to get it fixed. If you would like to, we can help you to re-install in a day, or you can stick with us and get it fixed :)

I am just looking at your SFC log now, ready to make a post.

Thanks!

Richard

Hello!

First, I would like to thank you for making the effort to research the problem, and well done on getting that CBS.log parsed and uploaded. That is a little tricky for the first time! Right! First, I need to see some other logs.

Right, here is my analysis of your SFC report:

A couple of months ago you ran SFC. autochk.exe was found to be corrupt. Now you have several more corruptions, and most importantly, a manifest corruption. First, we need to look into the manifest.

Run The System Update Readiness Tool Description of the System Update Readiness Tool for Windows Vista, for Windows Server 2008, for Windows 7, and for Windows Server 2008 R2 even if this tool doesn't solve your problem it creates CheckSur.log file in C:\Windows\Logs\CBS folder. Please upload this file. You cannot upload out of a system folder, so please always copy the log files to your Desktop before attempting an upload. It can take up to 1.5 hours to run, but you MAY use the computer during this time (not that you can do much!)

Right, now please follow these steps:

OTLI.gif
OTL - Download or alternative link here and here

Download OTL to your Desktop
  • Double click on the icon to run it. Make sure all other windows are closed and to let it run uninterrupted.
Under the Custom Scan box paste this in:

/md5start
autochk.exe
wecsvc.dll.mui
wsmsvc.dll.mui
/md5stop

  • Click the None button, followed by the Run Scan button. Do not change any settings unless otherwise told to do so. The scan wont take long.
    • When the scan completes, it will open one notepad window. OTL.Txt These are saved in the same location as OTL.
    • Please copy (Edit->Select All, Edit->Copy) the contents of this file, and post them here.

Thanks!

Richard

P.S. There is one bit of tiny good news, but don't get excited, and that is for after I see the other log files. All it is that one of the corruptions may be easier to fix.
