Win7SP1x64 crash/BSON on sleep/hibernate

Hi there!

I have the problem with Win7sp1 x64. Since I have some AC power problem in neighborhood I am using an UPS, and pretty often it needs to shutdown the PC. Unfortunately, I am unable to persuade Win7 to make it shutdown, it always tries to hibernate. I have never managed to wake it from such sleep. It just went down to black screen and freezed without BSOD. Also, every few day it just freezes or crashes with BSOD, however I have realized, that after hard reset all HDDs are in sleep mode, therefore I might be power related. For now, I have disabled all power saving, but it only helped a little. I have disabled all Gigabyte motherboard DES "power saving" options mainly based on CPU throttling and removed all associated software - it also helped a bit.
I am almost sure this is power management related, as it NEVER happened on my eyes, I have only found it dead after being away from computer.
The system was perfectly stable for more than 2 years when I was running it with XPsp3 32-bit. This Windows7 installation is less than 3 weeks old, I have installed in on new (unused) SSD drive.
Pre-boot diagnostics offered by Win7 did not found any issues.
All hardware is running at stock safe speeds. No temperature issues there.
Please find attached all reports I have collected - hopefully, you may find it more meaningful that I was.

The system is home made:
motherboard: Gigabyte GA-EP45T-DS3R w/latest BIOS version
Core2Duo E8400@3,00GHz (stock)
8GB RAM (2x4GB Kingston HyperX @1333 CL9 - stock)
Asus nVidia GeForce 6600GT
OCZ Vertex2 SATA SSD 120GB - system
3x SATA magnetic drives standalone
2x SATA magnetic drives in RAID1 (mirror) mode on Intel ICH10R
Windows7 SP1 x64 (MOLP version, with SP1 preinstalled)
ESET Internet Security 4 x64 version

Thank you in advance for any suggestion,
Mateusz

Your reports were not definitive. Several causes were given. It is my opinion that the best place to start would be with a memory test.
Download and test with memtest86 and then repost if you get additional BSODs
http://www.geekstogo.com/forum/topic/246994-guide-to-using-memtest86/
In addition to memory several drivers were mentioned, but one step at a time.

Dear Richard,
MemTest 4.2 ran successfully. Additionally, I have swapped modues to a pair of good old 1GB Corsair CM3X1020-1333C9DHX and nothing changed.
I have uninstalled ESET - now I have Windows Defender+Essentials only.
I have updated nvidia driver to latest 270.61 (previous was 266.58) only to see it crashed in no time after verifier ran.
I have used verifier.exe to test the system and definitely it started to crash. Intel Matrix Raid showed drives disconnected at will and reappearing in seconds.
Please find attached new dumps and verifier logs.
Why XPsp3 32-bit was rock stable on the same machine?

I am looking forward for any further suggestions...

Mateusz

Verifier indicates
ci.dll
I would try an SFC to see if that helps.

If that does not work, you may get some ideas from this thread.

Hi!,

thanks for new hints. I have updated intel chipset/raid drivers once more, to latest possible version, turning off verifier.
SFC did not found any problems with the system.
For last few hours system is stable, however as I have mentioned, crashes are most prevalent when left alone. I'll see tomorrow if it lasts the night and then another day.

I think Win7 in x64 version is only usable on systems from large box makers having means to verify driver base for their system... Otherwise it more a hazard game.

I'll keep you updated what may show up tomorrow,

Thank you for your support,
Mateusz

Re: Win7SP1x64 crash/BSOD on sleep/hibernate

Hi there!

unfortunately I have no good news... My computer crashed 3 times tonight, once with blue screen and twice was unresponsive. I've found in eventlog that all events happened closely after windowsupdate scan. I have ran it manually, with only set of Office patches found and installed.
I am seriously thinking about full reinstall of system or return to XP.
Please find attached latest set of dumps...

Looking forward to hear from you,

Mateusz
