I have a Gateway Windows Vista Home Premium and one night before I went to bed I put it on hibernate but I noticed how it never shut off. Sometimes it takes awhile for it to hibernate, so I thought it was just doing that. However, when I woke up the next day, the computer was still on and an error message says "SMART Failure Predicted on Hard Disk 2: WDC WD1000BEVS-22LATO-(S1)...
WARNING:Immediately back-up your data and replace your hard disk drive. A failure might be imminent. Press F1 to Continue.

So I just left it on all day and would deal with it when I came home from school. When I came back, I pressed F1 and it gave me a list of options to put it on safe mode or start windows normally.I clicked on start windows normally but it just resulted in a black screen and nothing would load. I did the same to the other option. I also read in the manual about pressing F8 and holding down ALT and pressing F10 but nothing works, it just ends up in a black screen.

I've been restarting and shutting it down several times.
When I put the CD in the same SMART message appears and after I press F1 it says "Windows is loading files" and it takes me to system restore. However, it only gives me the option to do a full factory recovery so since I am desperate and I just want my computer back I decided to do it. It has a check by "Reformatting the Windows partition of your hard disk drive" but the problem is that the progress bar is not moving the whole time and it says "please wait". After an hour a error message appears that says
"ERROR 1005. If this continues, contact Gateway Support".
I don't have alot of time and I am DESPERATE! I would greatly appreciate the help.

Sounds like you need to replace your HD.

You can check by running the bootable utility provided your HD manufacturer.

If it turns out your HD is useless - do you have a method to install windows on a new HD?

Well I have 2 Gateway Laptops. The failed HD has Windows Vista, and the other is Windows XP. Is it possible to just switch the 2 hard drives?
