HDD failing - advice needed please.

Hi all,

I have an older machine that's running vista home basic 32bit. My main HDD seems to be failing (very slow to start, "whirling" up and down noise etc..)

My query is, as i have 2 other HDDs installed on the same PC, is there a way of transferring vista to one of the other drives so it boots from there without the use of the DVD (disc lost in a house flood a few years back.)

Cheers,

Mark.

If it were me, this is what I would do.
First to save my stuff make a back up of your hard drive with Macrium
Macrium Reflect FREE Edition - Information and download
Then transfer that image to the HD of your choice.
Best of all, no matter what you try after you make the image, if you use the same computer, your stuff will all be backed up, including the software. If it works destroy the old hard drive or remove Vista. You are allowed to only have one copy of Vista in use, per the Microsoft Terms that were agreed to when you made your purchase of Vista or the Computer. Good Luck.

Cheers Rich,

Once the image is moved to the correct HDD and the offending drive is removed, would the pc boots as normal through bios and into windows log on?

cheers.

You will have to choose the correct boot order, per the BIOS. If you need help post. Right now back up your stuff. That has priority.
