Hey All, I need to start this thread first to see if there are any ideas. I'm running vista home premium X64 on and an AMD dual core. Everything s great> Enter the Western Digital My Book Premium II 1.5 Terabyte external drive. I find out it's not really Vista compatible after all. Vista does not enumerate an ieee 1394a device (it has to announce itself). So I try to edit the registry so vista will enumerate it..nothing. I also tried deleting IFCACHE1 so Windows would rebuild it's usb driver to recognize it...nodda... I imagine if it had eSata capability I'd be up and running already. Any help on the horizon?

Just an update all. So I got a direct download of Windows Vista SP1 by becoming a partner. (You can download this March's release early if you become a Microsoft partner in business..lol). Burned to dvd and installed no problems. Guess what, still no usb2 or firewire support for this drive. I'll probably send it back if I can't get 1394b to work either. AS far as I can tell, if it's not eSata capable, don't buy it for vista 64.

Tonight I installed a 1394b 32/64 bit firewire controller card. Vista 64 saw it and installed it right away. Next I'll try installing that drive again as it is 1394b compliant. so this should work. I will keep you posted.

I've some touble with my 2 WD premium (500GB) and there are a lot of post in the WD forum.
I run Ultimate x64 and I've had problem with the firewire connection. But I solved them..... though I've still problem with the Button manager (in USB, that I've to allow every boot...... (UAC block it).
Sorry for my english and if you need more info go in the WD Forum.
