It isn't so much a driver as a color profile (ICM file), and as such doesn't really matter whether it is 32 or 64 bit. Just download from here,

AcerPanAm.com/canada

extract it somewhere, and use the update driver function in Device Manager for the monitor; when it asks select "let me choose" and point it to the INF in the folder you extracted.

Stormy, Thanks, I already got that but it doesn't do anything, it leaves the same two monitors in the device manager. One is a P&P Generic monitor and the other one is Non-P&P monitor (I think this one is for my TV).

I will try it again, perhaps I did it wrong the first few times. I know I was one frustated dude the first couple of days with all the drivers and the way you have to install them on Vista.

i am having what seems to be the same problem
i have the same monitor and my computer is only recognizing it as a generic non PNP monitor
i dont know if this has something to do with my graphics proc or the drivers (this whole problem seemed to start when i updated the drivers, i rolled the drivers back and it ddnt change)
please help, my resolution is stuck at 1024 by 768

My Computer

monitor shouldnt matter much, the one taking care of the resolution should be the video card. If the video card's driver is installed it should show in the device manager under "display adapters", if it is not installed it shows under "other devices".

post what you can see there ;)

My Computer

I am having the same problem

video card: nvidia 9800GT
monitor: acer al2216w
OS: vista 64 ultimate

This box used to run winXP but I upgraded because I wanted to try vista64
so I bought vista64, and bought a new hardrive, put in the new hardrive and installed
vista.

Now the default vista video driver works fine, but of course has no 3d acceleration so its not an option. However if i install the nvidia driver the monitor stops working.

When the boot screen comes up, it comes up normally does the ram check and then loads vista, the vista loading bar also displays but then right before it shows the windows logo the screen goes black and it says "No signal". At that point the OS is loaded and it is waiting for me to login.

Here is the crazy part, at that point if i unplug the monitor from the video card, and then replug it and then click the mouse a couple times the monitor wakes up and I can log in just fine. But the resolution is locked at 1024x768.

I have a second monitor, if I unplug the Acer monitor and plug in my Viewsonic monitor and reboot then vista loads properly the nvidia driver loads properly and I get all the possible resolutions for that monitor.

The problem is that the nvidia vista 64 video driver does not recognize the acer monitor. There is nothing wrong with the acer monitor, if i plug in my old hard drive which has winXP on it, it works fine.

That is a 32bit driver, does it matter or not really if the video driver is 64 or 32?

I'm using vista64 and I need to run DX10 games and also Maya2008 64bit version

My Computer

Try this driver for your card. It seems that there are various problems with this monitor and vista.
GeForce Release 178

Ahhhh, this may solve the problem I am having posted on another thread. My monitor keeps crapping out on me from time to time and I was blaming the games I was playing. Last Night it didn't want to work anymore with the 178.13 or 178.24 (x64) driver

I am hoping that since DX10 is native to Vista, we won't have any problems playing those games. Besides, it seems that all the Publishers are porting the console games to PC so they are not optimized for PC anyways. I doubt we'll notice any serious changes, at least... that's what I am hoping for anyways! :D

Update:

I don't really know what the differences between the Acer AL2216W and AL2216WD are but I was able to find the following vista driver and I, for one, am willing to give it a run for its money if it lets me have a decent run at it for more than a couple of days.

AcerPanAm.com/us

Buying a new one is not an option at this juncture since it will cost me less to just get rid of Vista and run on XP. ;)

Try it at your own risk.

So far so good, I have not had time to play any games so I don't know how the monitor is going to react once it gets hot.

Well I finally got this fixed, but it happened by accident.

My mobo is a nforce 680i LT and I recently bought another 2gb of ram bringing my total to 4gb, well my mobo had some serious problems dealing with the new ram and sometimes it would not boot up.

I checked with the manufacturer for a bios update for my ram at evga.com
and there was a bios update, so I burnt it to a disk on my wifes computer because by this time my comp was completely unstable even though I had taken the ram back out.

once the disk was burnt I booted from the disk and updated the bios and everything worked fine, I was able to successfully update set my ram settings to the proper rated timing which is 4,4,4,15 (previously it had been running at 5,5,5,20) I was also able to successfully up my FSB speed from 1067 to 1300 (I tried 1333 first but that was not stable when playing games). So the cpu is now running at 2.92ghz although it is technically rated for only 2.4ghz

So after all that was done I figured I'd give my Acer AL2216W (which had spent a month just sitting on the shelf gathering dust) a try to see if it would work now and it did, so everything is working truely great now :) and all it took was a bios update.

I also have the Evga 680i but mine is the SLI mobo and I have the p33 bios which I believe is the latest one. I think that your update will not fix your issue even though I am hoping it will.

For now, installing the Vista drivers for the AL2216WD has kept me from having any of those issues.
