I have read that some people have a problem with WMP stating "connect burner and restart the player".
I have this same problem. I have used the WMP to burn cd's before.
I can burn with Roxio, but the WMP gave me more options and would like to have it back.

Any help would be appreciated TY

Hello dhrngwd,
Found this fix on another site, it may work, give it a try and post your results.
Good luck.

RUN > type in Services.msc > Double click IMAPI CD-Burning COM Service > Turn it on let it load.

Will it play a normal music CD, and is it listed in Device Manager ?.

I wonder if a reset of the driver would work, go to Device Manager and un-install the driver, reboot and try it.

If you are using windows vista x64, then use this command to switch to a 64 bit media player :

press ctrl + R to open RUN. now type :%windir%\system32\unregmp2.exe /SwapTo:64

To reset the 32 bit version only, just go to
root:/ program files/ windows media player/ setup_wm.exe this will pop up the window for setting up windows media player and you are again with the defaut player.

This information is provided "as is", i would create a restore point before doing it.

None of the above works either, and the frustration mounts. I guess it would be easier to buy and install a second drive in the machine.

It may be the drive, i just get the feeling that it's not, if it will recognise a music CD, then it's working. I think the problem is in WMP itself.

If this doesn't work get a big hammer and relieve your frustration.
(Don't pay too much attention to the title, it has worked in the past).

The CD drive or the DVD drive does not work as expected on a computer that you upgraded to Windows Vista

If you try the auto fix, just check after it has finished, sometimes you have to do it manually.

The fixit program says the CD/DVD is not capable of writing. However it will write in the Roxio program. It also says I may have to install a CD/DVD writer.:(
I have also tried to remove the upper and lower filters and no luck there. Had to put them back as the Roxio says the recorder is "busy". :(
I have run out of hammers, and will break down and get another internal drive. This will be more cost affective than paying Msft to fix a problem which I believe is their doing.:sarc:
There seems to be many people who have the same problem with the "connect a burner and restart the Player.

I appreciate your time and input to try and solve this problem. The frustrating part is that I have recorded with the Media Player and it just quit at some time.

Thank you again

Dennis

For such a common problem, it seems strange that MS has not come up with a genuine fix.
Anyhoo, I'm sorry we could not resolve this, I'm frustrated, so i can only guess what your like at the moment, have a stiff drink and put your feet up for a few hours.
I hope a new drive fixes it.
