Fix for microphone not working on Sony Vaio models

If you have a Sony Laptop, and your microphone stops working, I hope I have your answer. If you are like me, you take all of the logical steps - Uninstall the sound drivers, reinstall the sound drivers, uninstall them from the device manager, then reinstall them.

In my case, I checked the sound in the Control Panel, and everything looked right, said it was working, etc. This should be a fix for any Windows OS:

1) This is a given, but get the drivers from the Sony website (if they have them for your OS). Sony support is not very helpful. In this case download the ORIGINAL CAMERA drivers and save in a place you can easily find.
2) Right Click on Computer, Properties, Device Manager.
3) Look for Imaging Devices. In my case under that heading was Sony Visual Communications Camera VGP-VCC6 under the Imaging Devices.
4) Right Click on the Camera, click uninstall, check the box to remove the drivers from your computer. I always make a habit of rebooting after dealing with driver changes.
5) Install the original driver, and your mic should now work!

*From what I have seen and experienced myself the microphone and camera are tied together in Sony laptops, but usually it is assumed the mic is related to the sound drivers, since the microphone receives sound - hence the frustration and questions why reinstalling the sound drivers does not fix the problem.*

I hope this has solved your microphone issue!

God Bless!
