Data Execution Prevention closing Maplestory

I re-downloaded a game called Maplestory and it has worked on this computer before but it has been crashing a few minutes after the program has come up. I get into the game, I jump around for a bit, and then a Microsoft Windows messages pops up saying "Maplestory has stopped working." It crashed so many times that I got a popup saying Data Execution Prevention has stopped Maplestory and I have already added the .exe to the exceptions column but it is still causing it to close. Here is a photo, I don't know why it keeps crashing it. :( I am running on a 64-bit Vista Home Premium.

Hi Ryan, welcome to the forums, I've came across a very similar error myself, maybe you might find the same solution I did here

Hi Dave, I followed through to your link. I updated all of my drivers, turned off Vista DEP completely, updated DirectX and such. However, I still get the message I was receiving before. I'm not sure if I have hardware DEP and it doesn't seem like I do. But my DEP is definitely the problem since Maplestory is crashing and the message is continuing to popup. I e-mailed Nexon support but they are very slow at responding and their suggestions do not work.

Dave, I have checked and my computer does indeed have a hardware-enforced DEP. I do not know if is off or on. I turned off Vista DEP by opening up an elevated Command Prompt and turning it off completely from there. Maplestory is still crashing.

That is a common error with Nexon's games. It relates to your graphics card, usually at moments where your card cannot handle the visuals, so your driver fails and the program is forced to close. After upgrading my system, this problem no longer occurred.

Actually, wait a few days for some new suggestions. Do you know what your graphics card currently is? This could just be a problem with your system. Also, does anything show up when Maplestory crashes, or does it simply crash to the desktop with no errors?

Try a clean boot just to be sure:

In the start menu search, look up "msconfig" (Without the "") > Then open the startup tab, and click deselect all > Restart your computer, and then try Maplestory again.

Okay because I want to make sure before I spend over $100 for an upgraded graphics card. Right now my card is "ATI Radeon HD 3650." When Maplestory crashes, I provided an image that shows that my computer's DEP is closing it even though my DEP is completely off. Here is another photo:

It's definitely the DEP because if Maplestory crashes too many times, a little icon at the bottom right of the screen pops up and says "Vista Data Execution Prevention stopped Maplestory. Find out why" but the DEP is off, which makes no sense. I restarted my computer with no startup programs and it still crashed. :|

To disable hardware DEP, it needs to be done in the bios, restart your pc and the first screen you see will instruct you to press a certain key to run setup, once in there you will find a number of options, if you have CPU configuration then it'll be in that option, it will have a name similar to "EXECUTE DISABLE BIT", "NX", "DATA EXECUTION PREVENTION" or "XD", hope this helps

Never mind, this is definitely not a graphical issue.

Try this so you can: 1. Be sure DEP is disabled 2. Fix the problem if it isn't

Right click on Computer > Properties > Advanced System Settings > click the Settings button under Performance > Data Execution Prevention > Select "Turn on DEP for all programs and services except those I choose" and find/select Engine.exe

If the options are unselectable, then DEP really is disabled, and you should follow the above suggestion by MrNeeds, though I'm unsure if that would work since it is hardware DEP and Maplestory is software.

Mr. Needs, I tried to disable DEP from the BIOS but it's grayed out. The only thing that came close to "EXECUTE DISABLE BIT", "NX", "DATA EXECUTION PREVENTION" or "XD" was under Power and it was called "NX." It's grayed out and I can't disable it. There isn't any other mention of "EXECUTE DISABLE BIT", "NX", "DATA EXECUTION PREVENTION" or "XD" under any column. Here's a photo:

Madandfrustrate, my Vista DEP is also grayed out which means it is entirely shut off. My first attempt at solving my Maplestory problem was to add it to the exceptions column of Vista DEP but it still closes it and crashes.

Guys, thank you very much for you help but I fixed the problem! I opened up an elevated command prompt, typed "netsh winsock reset", restarted my computer, and by some miracle the program is no longer crashing nor disconnecting! Hopefully players will see this and it will fix their problem, thanks again!

Sorry for the giant bump, but I am having the same problem. I tried putting this code, it worked the first time until the loading screen , and a hackshield update error came up, and after that whenever I put that code into the cmd it just said maplestory was closed due to data execution prevention, even though I have disabled it through the cmd.
