Vista built in games fail to install

Hey everyone (smile)

I would like some helpful suggestions on this issue because I am working two jobs lately and I really don’t have time to correct an obvious flaw with Windows Vista; especially on a system that I built and donated to our church.

ISSUE: The built in games (written by Microsoft) fail to install over and over again with this error message:

“Windows Features”
“An error has occurred. Not all of the features were successfully changed.”

System: Dell 4600 Tower (P4 Pentium 2.6 GHz. single core) with 1 Gigabyte RAM running Windows Vista Business (32 Bit) on a brand new 160 gigabyte IDE hard drive. This is a fresh OEM install of Vista with ALL (every) update available from Microsoft; with of course SP2. Running Direct X 11 and a Nvidia GeForce FX 5200 display adapter (aka video card) with the Microsoft certified driver.

These (above) are the minimum requirements for Windows Vista 32 bit and other then the fact that the built in games fail to install…… it runs great.

Have tried so far:

  1. Emptied I.E. que and also reset it.
  2. Installed ALL……every single update available from Microsoft for Vista.
  3. Ran CHKDSK …… comes up clean.
  4. Restarted the computer numerous times.
  5. And ….yes I have followed the exact procedure for expanding the games (control panel >> programs and features >> turn windows features on or off >> allow user account control to continue)
  6. Install all games at once.
  7. Install individual games one at a time.

There is no other software on this system so it does not make sense. But it really does not surprise me since Vista is the worst operating system Microsoft has written since Mr. Gates “reverse engineered” the Macintosh GUI and produced Windows 3.1. But hey…. That’s just my opinion ….. (wink, wink). It’s just too bad that Microsoft decided to make more money with Windows 7 (finally fixing most of the failures in Vista) rather then admit that they obviously made numerous “mistakes” in Vista and failed to consider what end users really want in an operating system. The only reason I used Vista on this tower was because it is not good enough to run 7 and it is getting increasing more difficult to install XP, which is just about the best operating system Microsoft has ever written. And I had a spare Vista key.

Anyway….. Helpful suggestions would be greatly appreciated, thanks in advance (smile).

In my experience any system that can run Vista should be able to handle 7 since they have similar system requirements, provided that your system has at least 2 gb of ram. Your only possible exception would be drivers if the system manufacturer doesn't have any specific for 7. On the other hand I have had Vista drivers work quite well on 7. The only problematic drivers where the audio drivers. Personally I prefer Vista over 7 and I don't think that it's such a bad system. I suppose though that experience is key however I can tell you this: if you hate Vista don't even try 8.
