problem with PC not locking after waking up

nerve

New Member
Hey guys, if someone could help me out that would be great. I'm having some trouble trying to get my PC to lock up when it comes out of "sleep" mode. It also does not go into the Screen Saver anymore it just goes straight to "turn off display" and then it doesnt lock up the PC when it "wakes up". I am guessing this is an interface problem or maybe a registry problem, if anyone has any suggestions I would really appreciate them.

Thanks a lot guys,

Andrew

OK, I think you're misnaming terms - are you asking why the computer is not returning to the Welcome Screen (i.e. the PC is not *locked* when coming out of sleep or when the monitor blanks?

If so, that is a simple fix - right click on your desktop in the empty space (NOT on an icon) and select Properties --> click on Screen Saver --> check the box beside 'On resume, display logon screen'

That should get you fixed up. That screen is also where you can select what screen saver you want to run, but whether the screen goes blank and into low power mode (Standby) first or the screen saver kicks in first will depend on the time settings for both - the Screen Saver defaults to a setting of 10 minutes, but even after setting this you see that the monitor is powering off, you can either lower the time to wait for the screen saver, or adjust your monitor standby time using the Change power settings link under the screen saver settings on the same window.

Post back if you need detailed instructions on how to fix that.

BTW, I wasn't being nit picky about your use of 'lock up' - it's just that, colloquially, a 'lock up' refers to a situation where the computer is in an *unresponsive* state, not doing what it is supposed to be doing, just sitting there like a big paperweight. HTH

I know thats how you do it. lol. I was just wondering if someone could help me get it working again because it doesnt wanna work anymore lol. BTW "turn off the display" is set for 20 min and "sleep mode" is set for 5 hrs, and "require a password on wakeup" is on.. The screen saver does not come on at all anymore.

thanks,

nerve

Well, my apologies- I have no idea what you do and don't know. However, do you have some sort of application that runs 24/7 in the background, such as SETI@Home (powered by BOINC), or else have you recently enabled Wake on LAN feature in either Windows or else in your BIOS?

Alright guys, thanks to my superior skills I solved my problem. lol jk. seriously I thought about it and i was thinking it was probably the CCleaner scan that screwed things up a bit.. so i restored the PC and now it works again.
