SOLVED: Vista 64!!: Only 3 out of 4 GB!

Hi people!

I know theres a problem with 4GB of ram under Vista 32 but...
I've been running Vista 64 Business for a couple of months now,
and I only recently noticed this (I believe it was OK before...):

Does anyone have ANY idea how this is possible?
Bios shows 4GB as well.

I'm running an intel D975XBX2 mainboard, with an E6600 CPU @ 3.0Ghz.
4X 1GB Corsair twinX and an ATI HD3870X2 videocard.

Thanks!

My solution to this problem was to go into my bios and enable a feature on my ASUS MOBO that was called Memory Remapping (I believe).

This enabled my bios info to read "4GB (Installed Memory 4GB)."

Before this change, my bios information was reading "2.8GB (Installed memory 4GB)."

Hi Wracky,

This could be a setting in your system configuration. To check, click the start orb and type 'msconfig' into the search box and press enter/return. After providing administrative credentials, the 'System Configuration' utility appears. Click the 'Boot' tab and then click 'Advanced options...'. On this page, ensure that the check box next to 'Maximum memory:' is clear (does NOT have a tick in it). Click 'OK' twice and then reboot your system for changes to take effect.

Thanks everyone for replying so quickly
And thanks Dwarf for providing me the working solution :D

I saw that checkbox before, but I can't remember if, and why I would have ticked it!
It works now :D

For those interested, some extra info on the Bios:The bios does report 4GB as it should ;) My bios doesn't have a memory remap option, but apparently (I've read it somewhere too) the 975X chipset boards do this automaticly :)

Thanks again everyone!

Kind Regards,
Wracky.

Hi Wracky,

Pleased to hear that you have solved your problem. As regards the BIOS - sometimes an upgrade can add extra features such as a memory remap option, but in general if your system is working correctly then I would leave the BIOS alone.
