BSOD - 8 GB DDR3 - Vista64

Hello i recently bought a new computer:

specs:

Processor: Core2Quad Q9450 4x 2,66 GHz
Ram: Corsair 8 GB XMS3 DHX DDR3 (2 x 4 GB)
Motherboard: Gigabyte GA-EP45-DS3
Graphic Card: Nvidia Geforce 280 (1 GB)

the system came without any OS. so i took my Vista Ultimate (64 bit, SP1) CD, and installed it. After that i installed all the drivers, updated them to the newest and installed all updates in Windows Update. it worked fine for the first 7 hours, after that it started to reboot random.

Theres no overheating/overclocking of any kind.

I opened a game, after 1 - 2 hours the screen will go black, pc turn off and reboot.

When windows start again it will show the followin error code:

Stop: 0x0000001E (0xFFFFFFFFC0000005, 0xFFFFFA8009F84AF0, 0x0000000000000000, 0x0000000000000038)

I've run a Memtest86+, Memtest86 and the Windows Vista Mem test, it passed all.
I've also tried reinstalling windows vista, didnt help.
But on XP (32Bit) i dont have theese random reboots.

Any help out there?

Hi MMJB,

The KMODE_EXCEPTION_NOT_HANDLED bug check has a value of 0x0000001E. This indicates that a kernel-mode program generated an exception which the error handler did not catch.

Cause

This is a very common bug check. To interpret it, you must identify which exception was generated at paramater 2 of the BSOD error.
Common codes include:

  • 0x80000002: STATUS_DATATYPE_MISALIGNMENTAn unaligned data reference was encountered.
  • 0x80000003: STATUS_BREAKPOINTA breakpoint or ASSERT was encountered when no kernel debugger was attached to the system.
  • 0xC0000005: STATUS_ACCESS_VIOLATIONA memory access violation occurred. (Parameter 4 of the bug check is the address that the driver attempted to access.)

Faulty device driver or system service.

In addition, a faulty device driver or system service might be responsible for this error. Hardware issues, such as BIOS incompatibilities, memory conflicts, and IRQ conflicts can also generate this error.

Disable or remove any drivers or services that were recently added.

Try changing video adapters. Check with your hardware vendor for any BIOS updates. Disable BIOS memory options such as caching or shadowing.

Hope it Helps

I have to question one thing here why do you have DDR3 when you board only supports Dual channel DDR2 1200

Ummm, no. Unless you can prove otherwise, see these two PDFs for the DS3 and DS3R:

http://www.gigabyte.com.tw/FileList/MemorySupport/motherboard_memory_ga-ep45-ds3.pdf

http://www.gigabyte.com.tw/FileList/MemorySupport/motherboard_memory_ga-ep45-ds3r.pdf

Also, you might want to read DDR3 SDRAM - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia - specifically the part about
Are not backwards compatible-wrongly inserting a DDR3 module into a DDR2 socket can damage the DIMM and/or the motherboard
- from http://www.kingston.com/channelmarketingcenter/hyperx/literature/MKF_1223_DDR3_FAQ.pdf

However, that same PDF also shows that you cannot "force" DDR3 into DDR2 sockets, so this might be a newer revision of this same board offering both DDR2 8and* DDR3 support....

MMJB, what revision is your board?
